During an emotional news conference, SC Gov. Stanford said he is resigning as chairman of the Republican Governors Association.1 minute ago from BNO Headquarters
He was also my first choice for 2012, and this has been very disappointing. As far as I’m concerned, the affair is bad, but he could have recovered from it, at least in my eyes. I care much more about what a politician does in office than what he does on his own time, and Mark Sanford has been one of the best on the clock. I’ll take cheating on one’s wife over buying votes with public money any day of the week.
The way he dealt with it, however, including the disappearing act and this pathetic press conference, was the nail in the coffin in my view. It would have been nice if he’d dealt with this like a man, but instead it looked like he should have been on Oprah.
Oh, and I also meant to say that what you said about people falling into temptation in politics goes for a lot of other high pressure lines of work. There’s a reason doctors and lawyers tend to go through a lot of marriages. Alcoholism isn’t the only vice plaguing these professions.
Yup. This guy is responsible for his actions...and only him.
“Pretty obvious he wanted to get caught.”
I agree - I can’t honestly believe he just took off for a week and didn’t think anybody would notice. This is too dumb to believe.
“God is parting the waters for Palin.
Faithful servant vs unfaithful?”
Nice way of seeing it. I sure hope so.
Palin ‘12 — accept no substitutes.
But, but, I thought character didn’t matter? I thought one’s personal life didn’t matter?
More fodder for Letterman.
I would say it has sunk because of the opposite sentiment. No one has ever pressed a politician to resign over doling out free money to his political base. And so here we are, with a massive deficit and entitlement culture. I’d say that’s been far more damaging to America than some politicians’ personal indiscretions.
A year long affair.?
The rats are beating this to death enough. As a conservative, I’d leave it lay and let the trash media banter it about.
Much bigger fish to fry like Iran, obama and media collusion etdc.
Governors take off for days at a time, but isn’t it interesting that when he was gone, someone outside the office just had to know where he was?
Then all he has to do is wait a while, write a book or 2, get on some news programs, make conservative pronouncements again and next thing you know he'll be thinking he can be POTUS, another Newt.
The Republicans are getting better. At least they are having illicit sex with WOMEN now.
I don't know ....... he has made the rich poor, the sighted blind, the agile lame and many other bad things happen.
Obama made the cheater cheat? I stubbed my toe this morning, can I blame Obama as well?
Ditto's
GOOD RIDDANCE
Absolutely.
Out out out! Fidelity and morality demontrate fidelity and morality in politics.
Sanford the Hypocrite. Note: it’s not hard to be faithful. Especially when there are children involved. God Bless his wife and his kids.
As my great aunt used to say, “A good man keeps his demons at bay while a bad man embraces them”. She was a Texan.
