Accept media bias and lynch mobs as REALITY. Look for politicians who do the same and act accordingly, and who do not themselves provide the club with which to bludgeon them, either wittingly or unwittingly, because in either case it causes concern for the politician’s judgment. Do not rail against the known reality, which is precisely what you are doing on this thread. you can’t change that, no matter how many of us wish it were not the case.

““I have a question. Who originally asked (publicly) where Gov. Sanford was?””

-

I’m thinking, it was Mitt Romney.

(that is to say, his operation)

This is so his M.O.

I don’t understand why this is a “scandal.”

__________________________________________

It's not a "scandal". It is a very serious red flag for those of us who were looking him to be a contender in 2012. If he can't take the heat in the State House without bugging out then I do not want him near the White House. At this point it would take a helluva "verifiably true" story to explain this episode to my satisfaction.

Yup. They’re more interested in making up lies about Republicans and going on gynecological expeditions of teenage girls (that happen to be the children of GOP Governors) than reporting about what the False Messiah is doing to this country. One more distraction.

In the court of public opinion, being in parts unknown rather than with your 4 sons on Father’s Day, looks ODD; it gives rise to questions/skepticism. that’s just a FACT. and the FACT that he was not with them is not supposition or media spin, it is FACT.

Spare me your righteous indignation while you carry a torch in one hand and a pitchfork in the other. At least I have the common courtesy to wait for the man to respond before running him through.

Sanford never said he hiked, so there is no “admission” here. Sanford explained where he had been, to some people who for some strange reason were particularly interested in HIS whereabouts, as opposed to 49 other Governors.

“Not to check in on Father’s Day is WRONG any way you slice.”

Wow, what did we do before there was a Fathers day. How did the children survive.

I have stayed out of this whole thing because the facts are simply not in yet. You cannot trust the media in this country anymore and apparently Gov. Sanford has alot of people in his own circle and party that he can’t trust. We should reserve judgement until he has his say at his presser today.

Didn't know he was having a presser. Thanks. It makes a difference WHO started this rumor publicly. The only thing that seems really odd is IF his wife didn't know where he was. Most wives/moms wouldn't put up with that. If there was a medical or family emergency, she would want to know how to reach him. I'm not sure I trust the reporting that the wife did not know where he was. Makes no sense.

is it just those of us with children who find it particularly egregious that he was away from his kids on Father’s day?

Father's Day is a manufactured, greeting-card retailer created holiday.

goodness, the hyperbole! raising a skeptical eyebrow at unexplained behavior of a politician now is the equivalent of skewering him? let’s calm ourselves and see what sort of explanation he has for his silly stunt.

49 other Governors didn’t just take off and not tell anyone either.....

49 other Governors didn’t abandon their kids on Fathers Day

I accept media bias and lynch mobs as reality and standard operating procedure from the left... not from the right. Every person on this thread that considers themselves a Conservative should’ve been defending this man to the hilt until the facts come out, not acting like a bunch of DUer jackals.

Me, too. This is more serious than I thought when I first posted regardless of the final story. If he is in the clear then this PR will probably die a quick death. But if he is truly irresponsible then that's a different matter entirely. I guess we just gotta wait.

Because you don't know what happened, that's why. The only people acting irresponsible around here is the lynch mob.

I'm beginning to get concerned about your blood pressure.

For ME — the MORE Conservative, the better — rock on Sanford.

But looking at this SHORT list:

Republican politicians that have had extra-marital affairs:
- Newt Gingrich
- John McCain (first wife)
- Rudy Giuliani
- David Vitter
- Larry Craig
- Henry Hyde
- etc.

Democrat politician that have had extra-marital affairs:
- Kennedy (take your pick)
- Bill Clinton
- James McGreevey
- Jon Corzine
- Eliot Spitzer
- John Edwards
- etc.

SO, sadly ... yes, perhaps some of us are “trained” and come to expect such things from politicians, from both sides of the political isle.

When ANY governor (chief executor) disappears for a few days, and his wife doesn't even know where he was — yeah, it does make me curious as to what was going on ...

THAT said — it does NOT mean he was having an affair — he may have just wanted to get away from it all, just like you or I might feel like doing from time to time.

This smells like a giant hit-piece. The SC GOP would be more than willing to participate, given Lt. Gov Andre Bauer’s history with Sanford.

I agree. Being away from your 4 sons and wife on Father’s Day + skipping out on your securiy detail + lies or half-truths to your staff = something fishy, most likely an affair.
