Obama Accuses Fired Inspector General of AmeriCorps of Being 'Confused, Disoriented' (WOW)

WASHINGTON -- Responding to criticism from a Senate Democratic ally, President Obama explained why he fired the Inspector General of the AmeriCorps without the 30-day notification required by law, calling Gerald Walpin so "confused" and "disoriented" that there was reason to question "his capacity to serve."

In a letter to the bipartisan leaders of the Senate Committee that oversees AmeriCorps, Obama listed these alleged defects in Walpin's leadership as an Inspector General.

* Removed after unanimous request from the AmeriCorps board of directors

* At May, 20, 2009, board meeting Walpin "was confused, disoriented and unable to answer questions and exhibited behavior that led the board to question his capacity to serve."

* The U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of California complained about Walpin's conduct to the IG oversight board and alleged he withheld exculpatory evidence.

* Walpin had "been absent from the Corporation's headquarters, insisting upon working from his home in New York over the objection" of the board.

* He "exhibited a lack of candor in providing material information to decision makers."

* He "engaged in other troubling and inappropriate conduct."

* He "had become unduly disruptive to agency operations, impairing his effectiveness."

Here is my question: Did anybody think to call an AMBULANCE for IG Walpin on the day in question? If not, why not? If he was as ‘confused’ and ‘disoriented’ as they say he was, he was quite possibly suffering a stroke. That would be easy to prove...JFK

I watched the gentleman on Glenn Beck’s show the other day. He’s a former prosecutor that went after Roy Cohn and took down Attorney General Mitchell and Stans during Watergate. He seemed very lucid to me. An experienced old pro like that will likely eat Mr. Obama’s lunch and send him the bill. If I were a neophyte rookie who’s never worked a day in my life, this is exactly the kind of guy I’d avoid going after. But what do I know? Plus, as he explained the law, he was fired illegally.

I saw the interview last night, Mr. Walpin was extremely impressive and obviously a very smart attorney and experienced prosecutor. Mr. Walpin had a no nonsense persona about him which actually reminded me of Dick Cheney.

Obama looks like a fool with this allegation. This has the potential for serious negative ramifications for Obama. I am interested to see how it plays out.

I would say that the odds that Gerald Walpin will be audited by the IRS next year are approaching 100%.

Anyone need more evidence that Obama is a deranged Commie?

He sounds exactly like the communist political officers of yester year.

Gerald Walpin must have shown some signs of being conservative.

Based on personal experience, this man was most likely targeted, frozen, personalized, and polarized by the Obama Administration.

Otherwise known as systematic character assasination.

Is the guy a drunk?

It would explain why he wanted to work at home and was “dazed and confused”.

He seemed pretty articulate and focused on those TV and Radio interviews. Also, if this was the reason “complaints from the board”, then why give him 1 hour to resign and be fired instead of simply following the law and fire him using the required procedures.

It's not merely the rules, it's the law of the United States that 30 days notice must be given to both houses of Congress. Zer0 can't just make up his own stupid reasons for disobeying the United States Code:

PUBLIC LAW 110–409—OCT. 14, 2008
INSPECTOR GENERAL REFORM ACT OF 2008

http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/getdoc.cgi?dbname=110_cong_public_laws&docid=f:publ409.110.pdf

(a) Establishments.-- <> Section 3(b) of the Inspector General Act of 1978 (5 U.S.C. App.) is amended by striking the second sentence and inserting ``If an Inspector General is removed from office or is transferred to another position or location within an establishment, the President shall communicate in writing the reasons for any such removal or transfer to both Houses of Congress, not later than 30 days before the removal or transfer. Nothing in this subsection shall prohibit a personnel action otherwise authorized by law, other than transfer or removal.''.

>>> Second of all, Barry broke the law he voted for that requires specific notification to Congress of the reasons to dismiss an IG and a 30-day notice. <<<<<

Yep. This isn’t some minor infraction, this is an egregious violation of federal law, which does in fact require 30 days notice to Congress, or ifs, ands, or buts.

Yep, for a woman with that much responsibility...she sure is clueless. If I answered questions put to me by my boss the way she answered that committee member, I’d be fired.
