Letter regarding Letterman from Unilever (Hellmans/Best Foods):
Hello,
Thank you for contacting us regarding your disappointment with the program content which contained a commercial for a Unilever product. We never wish to offend anyone and your opinions are appreciated regarding this subject matter. Advertising for Hellmanns or media buys are done months in advance and unfortunately we cant foresee issues in the media before they come up. We appreciate the feedback from our consumers and weve decided to pull our online ads from the Letterman show from our advertising schedule moving forward.
We hope that this information has given you a better understanding of our advertising practices. Thank you again for taking the time to share your views with us. You can be assured that your comments will be considered as we continue to challenge our perceptions about what is appropriate for us in todays environment.
Kind regards,
Your friends at Hellmanns/Best Foods

He apologized under heat, and Sarah graciously accepted.
Dave at least maned-up and apologized. Dave is pretty irrelevant at this point. I hate people getting fired for PC reasons, even when they are on the other side. It is our side who will take the most hits.

The recent coarsening of public discourse in America has direct roots in Obamas middle-fingering of McCain and Hillary, not to mention his lipstick on a pig remark.
The Lettermans of the world think they need to out-Obama Obama.

Simple way to get rid of Letterman is to him off and boycott his sponsors.
CBS is NOT going to fire David Letterman. But hey, if it makes you feel good to insist that they do, who am I to stand in your way?
The main effect the continued protests will have is to further enflame Letterman’s hatred. Eventually he will step over the line again, he won’t be able to help it. He’s like Sophia on the Golden Girls—spitting out hateful insults with no concern for the consequences.
I don’t think Letterman should be fired, as I didn’t think Imus should have been fired. He should have apologized which he did. I don’t have a problem with a boycott either, losing viewers and advertisers is the effective way to send the message. OMO, the protesters need to make it clear that they are exposing the hypocrisy.
