President Barack Obama’s address to the annual meeting of the American Medical Association today didn’t break new ground, but attempted to assure doctors and their patients that his prescription for overhauling the health care system would be good for them. For patients, he made a sweeping pledge that “no matter how we reform health care, we will keep this promise: If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor. Period. If you like your health care plan, you will be able to keep your health care plan. Period. No one will take it away. No matter what. I may like my doctor what I require is that when my wife had cancer we got to see the experts of our choice on a very fast track, I liked them too but they weren’t “our doctor” they were specialists.
Telling me I can “keep” my doctor has nothing to do with rationing, having less advanced equipment, etc.
