TEHRAN, Iran - Shots were fired Monday at a rally by pro-reform presidential candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi, apparently by pro-government militia.
An AP photographer said militia fired at the opposition protesters, killing at least on person.
"There has been sporadic shooting out there ... I can see people running here," added a reporter of Iran's English-language Press TV.

Ummm...I'm not so sure. He'd be keeping tabs on the situation, working behind the scenes where possible, but I don't think he'd be on national TV supporting this.
I recall some strong words of Bush's during a SOTU address to the effect that if the Iranian people stood up against their oppressors we'd support them. But that was the only time I recall him being so specific like that.
I never thought Bush/Cheney would leave office with the Iranian nuclear threat unopposed by America. But they did.
I'll agree fully that O-crapfull isn't a man of his word.
Yesterday he was taking credit for this ‘robust debate’.
Don’t worry -it will be Bush’s fault by week’s end!
He would have made a statement already because one of the most important aspects of his vision for the ME was the freedom of its people from oppression.
Of that, there can be no doubt.
Naah! The moonbats are already comparing this to the Florida 2000 recount. They praise the Iranians for being brave enough to fight back. For some folks there's no hope for curing their mental illness. But we give them an hour or so of cable time every day on MSNBC.
What exactly do you want Obama to do? If he openly encourages the protesters, that could backfire as they would be labeled as tools of the US.Exactly what I was thinking.
I’m sure Ahaminejad is going to give another speech to the MSM today claiming Iran is the worlds example of human rights and moral values. And their will be CNN and Amanpour acting as an extension of Irans state run news backing up what the midget Hitler says.
The Only Reason that the Iranian Nuclear threat went Unopposed by Bush Admin was because of the Pressure from Democrats intent on making him look like an Imperalist. Iran and NK are axis of evil had Bush been allowed to have his way politically here at home neither would be a threat today.
Too bad Iranians are not allowed to own private weapons. This situation shows that an unarmed populace is virtually powerless against a ruthless government.
I’m with you don’t really understand the posters point. Obama should take a stand and if it backfires on him SO WHAT. At least he would have taken a stand on principle and supported Freedom, Liberty and Democracy...
But I guess the other poster doesn’t realize that Barry is nothing more then a narcissistic totalitarian dictator.
I can answer your question...
RESIGN THE PRESIDENCY BEFORE HE DOES FURTHER HARM TO THE USA.
No kidding. The guy just had a grueling one day trip to Chicago on AF-1, too.
Isn't that a DU argument?
It’s a shame they didn’t rise up BEFORE zero became president.
Pretty much
Seems like time is slowly going to run out for Imadinnerjacket. The pity is that the Iranian nuclear program won’t slow down a bit, while with the “reformer” put in power, Israel will be completely unable to launch an attack, and Obama will do as Clinton-Bush before him did with North Korea: trust and aid them so they have time to make a bomb.
You'd have been perfect.
Hussein's buddy Bill Ayers had Daley's police army fall on him like a cube of bricks October 8-11, 1969.Hussein is now voting present as instructed by his puppetmasters.
The whole world is watching--all the tyrants are in power.
This is Hussein's Kent State and he's playing Nixon--welcome to Bizarro World.
American interference or comment which appears to support either side would be disastrous I think. There is still hostility in Iran for what is perceived as American interference in the 70s. Some that are supportive of this potential revolution or ambivalent could turn against a side favored by the US.
While the students may be hoping for support from the US, that support would be disastrous for them. This regime is not limited by law. Their thinking is that they will do what they need to do to squash this uprising. If it becomes a symbol of rebellion against the US, then that makes any action against the students appear justified. The US needs to stay out of this...completely.
