.- Supreme Court nominee Judge Sonia Sotomayors views on abortion law and the unborn were topics in several of her meetings with U.S. Senators. One pro-life senator reports that Sotomayor told him she had never thought about the rights of the unborn, while a pro-abortion senator says that she clearly acknowledged to him the importance of precedent.
On Tuesday Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) discussed his meeting with Sotomayor.
We had a good meeting that covered a wide array of issues and Judge Sotomayor was very personable and engaging. However, I didnt hear anything today that eased my concerns, he said.
When I asked if an unborn child has any rights whatsoever, I was surprised that she said she had never thought about it, Sen. DeMint reported. This is not just a question about abortion, but about the respect due to human life at all stages, and I hope this is cleared up in her hearings.
Those who serve on the highest court in America must have an unwavering commitment to the Constitution and equal justice for all Americans, he said.
Sen. DeMint also expressed concern about her views on the Second Amendment, which protects the right to bear arms.
On June 2, Sotomayor had a meeting with Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-CA), who supports legalized abortion. After the meeting, Sen. Feinstein said she felt comfortable that Sotomayor supports the Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade as a precedent.
The nominee also met with Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) on June 3. A supporter of abortion, Wyden told reporters he was very pleased that Judge Sotomayor has indicated in the past that she possesses a great respect for precedent, Politico says.
He reportedly said he asked specifically about abortion and Roe v. Wade, after which she acknowledged the importance of precedent
She made that very clear.
What a lying SOS.
Liar or complete moron. I pick liar. A Puerto Rican 0bama
The Honorable judge thinks only of herself.
I don’t know. She MIGHT just be a moron instead of a liar. I mean, wouldn’t it take a moron to think they could get away with such a stupid statement?
Oh, wait. I forgot that Obama-Americans don’t seem to be the swiftest people on the planet. Nevermind. They’ll swallow anything she says.
Catholic Latin from big family Puerto Ricans never...never..
“had never thought about it”
no brain or no conscience - in the case of the latter, utter evil.
What does he know? He's just some white male.
That sentiment in itself is a disturbing thought. She shouldn’t be a judge, period.
Just a thought, but seeing as how this is an issue involving an American’s rights in terms of the Constitution and the fact that you will be ruling based on whether it is for or against the Constitution, maybe you should “think about it” Ms. Sotomayor.
My thoughts exactly. Preborn children can't do anything for her - not even sympathize with the terrible suffering she experienced as the Ivy League-educated child of parents born in Puerto Rico - and therefore, it's reasonable to assume that they never cross her mind.
Probably slept through any sermons on the subject. Either at home or in the pew.
Never thought about the rights of the unborn? Why would the liberal wise-a$$ latina consider them? It’s all about the hermanas.
Here’s hoping we get a sleeper for our side for once...not likely but you can always hope.
She’s never thought, period.....
Are you an alleged Catholic?
Ever heard of the Pope?
Keep talking you lying moron.
“Sotomayor says she has never thought about rights of unborn, senator reports”
Right, and BO sat and listened to Reverend Wrong for twenty years and never heard a word he said. Yup.
The Honorable judge thinks only of herself.”
That is the FIRST qualification of every NBObama appointee.
The fact that a judge said that is disturbing, but she has a point, but when is the last time you saw the rights of the unborn being discussed in the MSM? Liberals won’t even acknowledge that they are future people. The the Pro-Life-Pro-abortion debates only talk about the rights of women and how Republicans want to take away women’s choices.
