David Letterman is scornful of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, which is certainly his right. That he continues to use the bully pulpit of his late-night talk show to crack wise about the former vice presidential contender is acceptable also, if not exactly cutting edge comedy.
Clearly a public figure, Palin is fair game.
But Letterman went beyond the pale with his recent jokes about Palin’s daughter being “knocked up” by a New York Yankee player while attending a recent game.
Letterman claimed to be referring to Palin’s 18-year-old daughter, Bristol, who had a child out of wedlock. However, Bristol wasn’t at the ballpark that day. Her 14-year-old daughter was. Logically, that makes her the focus of the wisecrack, which would be truly disturbing.
Either way, Letterman’s attempt at humor strikes us as unnecessarily and unacceptably nasty. Neither of the Palin daughters were fit targets for that kind of material.
So, what now?
We’d like to see the matter dealt with the old Scots-Irish way.
With Father’s Day coming up next Sunday, how about the two dads, Letterman and Todd Palin, having a private, man-to-man meeting in some quiet, out-of-the-way place to discuss the matter. Todd strikes us as the kind of dad who would cut to the point quickly, not wasting much of Letterman’s valuable time.
The men would meet, make their points and then Letterman’s assistants could pick him up and carry him back to the limo.
Matter closed.

If the media is not reigned in now, it will forever be the “voice of Obama, and the left” in tirades of sexual and demeaning comments that spur hatred, then violence against conservatives. There is a mass hatred, that will turn violent if not corrected now, this is only the beginning.
CJ is my field and I understand this, just as you don’t ignore your children’s outbursts against you, because it will get worse. You don’t allow society to go too far, or it won’t be able to reign in these people. Look at past history of anti-semitism and anti-christian behavior, or anti-women societies like Taliban, even extreme muslims who have killed their wives and children. It is not checked, and escalates.
Just as North Korea, and Iran have not been checked, and we are dealing with the results. Don’t think the small things do not matter, because they do. We have the major problems, because we didn’t deal with the samller ones.
I had the same thought as the author. Mr. Palin should get on an airplane, fly to NYC, and call out David Letterman man-to-man. But, of course, that could never happen because Letterman is not a real man; he’s a liberal democrat.

Imagine if Rush or Hannity referred to Obama’s daughters as “those darling little pickanninies”, or something like that....but it’s OK with the so-called MSM to advocate rape and sexual attack on offspring of conservatives.

Todd wouldn't have to do anything but cross his arms over his chest and give Letterman a "look". I'm positive that Letterman would cringe in to a corner and profusely apologize.
What this has to do with Letterturd's wife is the following:
He had a child out of wedlock with a very unattractive big nosed, wide hipped cow.
He has been living out of wedlock off and on with said cow for sometime - about 6 or 7 years.
In every picture of them there is no affection between the two.
I would not normally insult a man's choice in women but in Letterturds case he started it.
Look at the family picture of the Palin's vs ANY picture of the Letterturd family. Letterturd is clearly jealous and takes it out with public insults.
Get over it. Most humans and men in particular are wired for beauty, it is a survival thing. Women are wired for money, it is a resource thing. In Letterturd's case he was wired for evil, hatred and pettiness. Just the way it is.
Given how low GWB’s popularity was at the end of his term, I’d be hesitant to use him for a reference in how to handle a political fight.
And imagine if the same ‘joke’ had been made about Michelle. SHE would be getting in the ring with Dave...
This is what I object to..these threads are about how awful it was to insult women, of ANY AGE. And then you go ahead and insult a woman who really has nothing to do with this story. It’s a tad hypocritical.
I think anger comes from a lot of places. I think for people of Letterman’s status, it comes from being so far removed from normal life. For all the things your fame and wealth can provide, there’s a whole list of things that you can no longer do. I think that must be very difficult. I think it’s difficult to be an old man in a young man’s world. I think it’s hard to be a man who knows he’ll probably never see how his son turns out. By all accounts, he adores that little boy and, yes, Ms. Lasko has apparently used that little boy as a pawn. So, all those put together makeup and very angry man. And he is..I can’t even watch him.
When I was in college, when he first started out (that was SO long ago, it’s hard to even imagine it) we used to have Letterman parties. He was so new and fresh. Now, he is so old and crotchety. His schtick is so played out it really amazes me that people still watch him. And that Paul Shaeffer laughing at his everyworld like a trained seal is so embarrassing. I truly don’t know why anyone watches those shows. Any of them. Conan is worse.
None of the late night hosts realize what it was that made Johnny Carson such a master. CARSON KNEW WHEN TO SHUT UP. He knew when to crack a joke, and when to let the guest have the spotlight. These yahoos truly think it’s always about them.
For Johnny, it was about his guests...and his jokes were hysterical.
One of the best ones was when he played a flasher in a trenchcoat! None of these guys can compare with the great Carson, period.
I agree with you about the digs on Lecherman's wife. I feel sorry for her having to wake up to that every morning....have a heart, guys. Love is blind.
This is the perfect op to turn Alinsky back at them. They really can't holler "hypocrite" in this case, and they can be made to endure what Willow and Bristol and Sarash had to endure.
