Bodies from the Air France passenger plane that crashed in the Atlantic Ocean off Brazil have been found by search teams.
The news comes it was revealed the airliner sent out 24 automatic error messages in its final moments as its systems broke down one by one.
The head of the French agency probing the tragedy said signals from the jet before it disappeared showed its autopilot was not on.
Paul-Louis Arslanian said it was not clear if the autopilot had been switched off by the pilots or had stopped working because it received conflicting airspeed readings.
He said investigators were searching a zone of several hundred square miles in the Atlantic Ocean for the debris.
Plane manufacturer Airbus said an investigation found Air France Flight 447 had inconsistent readings from different instruments as it struggled in a massive thunderstorm.
The plane, with 228 people on board, disappeared early on Monday as it made its way from Rio de Janiero, heading to Paris.
The wreckage of the jet has not been found, despite days of intensive searching by air and sea.

Lithgow was right, there are little monkeys/aliens on clouds that jump on airplanes and pull pieces off. I saw this on the “Twilight Zone” and we know that’s the truth! /sarc
No doubt. I’m a fairly nervous flyer, and I can’t the thought out of my head about how terrible it would be to be just descending in an uncontrollable manner, knowing full well that at the end of the plummet I was going to be dismembered, crushed and probably burned. It doesn’t help that I’ve seen the direct aftermath of a major plane crash and all its horrendous destruction. My discomfort with flying seems to have stemmed from that.
Only if it doesn't involve Muslim terrorists.
Prince Pedro Luis de Orleans e Braganca, lost on flight. Interesting
A simple prayer does it for me. Scared of some moron doing something stupid, so I put it in God’s hands and ask that His WILL be done. Pop two benedryl and sleep all the way there... :)
I hope you get better with flying.
I think the descent would be worse than the death.
do you have a link ?
The day of the breaking news of the disappearance of flight 447 there was mention of the pilot being in communication with the company (Air France) at the time of the incident, and all of a sudden the communication from the pilots end ceased.
Wondering if anybody else read that, and if so was there a followup article describing the content of the discussion, and as to whether or not it was pertinent to the potential of disaster?
I’ve read, nor heard anymore of that conversation.
I was living in NYC at the time and from the early reports, I think TWA 800 was brought down not by a bomb but by a shoulder fired missile that was fired from the Long Island coast. Interestingly, I heard that an El Al flight was supposed to leave at that time, but had been delayed and TWA 800 was in its slot.
However, I think the AF flight from Brazil probably was just a horrible conjunction of bad weather, a plane with problems (Airbus has already sent out messages to airlines owning this plane) and perhaps some freak malfunction.
Do you think the Challenger was blown up intentionally? If so, why?
Not if a lie is more convenient.
Thanks! At this point I'm really much better, though landings bother me somewhat. The past few times I've deliberately taken a window seat, and I really enjoy seeing the landscapes below. Despite the nervousness, flying is really an amazing thing, and for travelling long distances it beats everything else!
Bolide covers both.
I'm holding out for a mid-air with a flying saucer...
We’re short a few Clintonistas and a couple hundred witnesses before this even gets close to a TWA 800.
What about the ‘truth’ of the Eqypt Air flight whent he pilot was forcing the plane into the ocean, despite the attempts of the crew to pull him back and him praising Allah the whole way down(caught on the cockpit recorder)? That was determined to “not be terrorism” and I always shook my head at that idiocy.
