No doubt. I’m a fairly nervous flyer, and I can’t the thought out of my head about how terrible it would be to be just descending in an uncontrollable manner, knowing full well that at the end of the plummet I was going to be dismembered, crushed and probably burned. It doesn’t help that I’ve seen the direct aftermath of a major plane crash and all its horrendous destruction. My discomfort with flying seems to have stemmed from that.
A simple prayer does it for me. Scared of some moron doing something stupid, so I put it in God’s hands and ask that His WILL be done. Pop two benedryl and sleep all the way there... :)
I hope you get better with flying.
I think the descent would be worse than the death.
I feel the same on “discomfort” flying — and I get free tickets — (daughter an airline employee.) Am seriously looking into Amtrak for FreePer Wash DC trip — gonna do a “Dagny Taggert” for that one.
Try adopting the attitude that in the unlikely event that it happens, there’s nothing you can do about it, and you’re not going to suffer any physical agony from the crash itself; therefore, you might as well enjoy the ride down, observing with bemusement your fellow screaming passengers.
At least, that’s my attitude.
