Wendell seems like a pretty tough dude - it sure surprised me to see him getting choked up. He haltingly explained to Chris Wallace that the emotion was about the vets who were at the commemoration for the 65th anniversary of D-Day are now in their 80s and 90s, and won't be there for the 70th. Wendell was genuinely moved.
WOW, he really said that??! That's astonishing. He must think ALL countries deserve nuclear weapons because we have them?
Sound like he'd support everyone to have a gun then, too...
I think it was more him advocating that all of the countries with nuclear weapons should give them up.
Too bag Reagan isn’t there to give another speech and also (modestly) mention the battles he fought in during WWII.
What where those again? I haven’t been able to find any info about Reagan’s combat experience. He was so modest though, I’m sure someone knows...
Hubby's uncle Harold went back (for the first time since WWII) to Normandy a few years back. The French were very gracious and he was surprised and gratified by the way so many asked him to tell them his story.
He went to the cemetery to visit the grave of his captain and friend and was accorded full military honors. His son got it on video. It was beautiful and heartening to see that some people still remember and care.
Today, BO is the Allied Force who showed his incompetence amongst world leaders! I have a beautiful perrigrine falcon that frequents my back yard that’s more an American than this canary in a coal mine-in-chief! In Sarkozy’s honor (and the greatest generation), today I named him Pointe du Hawk. Also called Mom, the WWII vet, and thanked her....
Must be code speak for his communist manifesto brethren.
A Peggie Noonan he ain’t! tho’ neither is Peggie any more!
It looks to me like she is saying, “I’m scared, but I’m also big, I’m tough, and you can’t touch me!” Kind of like a dog, when the hair sticks up and makes it look bigger than it is...
It is the kind of belt you’d expect to be worn by someone trying to be masculine, only worn were no one would ever wear it. I guess I don’t get out much, but I can’t recall ever seeing a woman wearing a big belt just below her breasts. I keep waiting for her to add a Viking helmet to her accessories.
FUNNY, NO PHONY, YES
ACTUALLY ENLIGHTENED PEOPLE (LIKE YOUR FATHER) KNOW THAT AMERICANS HAVE A LOT TO APOLOGIZE FOR. START WITH THE HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF INNOCENT MEN, WOMEN AND CHILDREN WHO DEATHS WE HAVE CAUSED EITHER DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY. UNTIL WE ARE WILLING TO ADMIT OUR RESPONSIBILITY, WE CAN NEVER HOPE TO FIND LASTING PEACE. OBAMA KNOWS THIS AND THE PEOPLE OF THE WORLD KNOW THIS.
Overall Point score:
Zarkozy 1
Obama 0 (yes, zero, again)
but then, that goes without saying, doesn’t it!
In 2009, Obama took office and immediately attempted to revive it. It ain't over til the fat lady sings....
Peggy- we thought we knew you.
Safe to say you and your father are never going to have a meeting of the minds on the virtue and honor of our country.
In France, manners still matter. And the people of Normandy are like the heartland of America. They are down to earth, warm and love America and what America has done.
I have a colleague from Normandy. We had lunch to celebrate Sarkozy’s election.
His hatred for leftists and the evils of communism and islamic fundamentalism exceeds mine.
He left France to escape the high taxation and the alien punks. He had fights with these immigrant “youths.” Said if he hadn’t left he might have killed someone.
His hatred of leftists and the Islamic threat exceeds mine. Because he witnessed what it has done to France.
O is void of emotion. To me, he sounded like an ANGRY black man talking down to the crowd. It’s almost like every speech he has, he’s just dying to say, o’h I would done that better and I would have done this better and blah blah blah
Sarkozy’s speech was fabulous!
My Dad was “D-Day 30” serving in the Merchant Marines from Scotland, I belive he was at Utah beach...choked up every time he talked about his experience..seeing other boats around him get blown up. He’s been gone 4 years now and how I miss him so much. He was cremated and buried at sea with full military honors. Ceremony took place on the U.S. Carter (what can you do)
and we received a video, map of where his remains were let go and his American flag from the Navy. Real nice.
hope you don’t mind me sharing my thoughts for the day. I’m actually crying and smiling at the same time if that’s possible. Crying because I miss that man, my Dad so much and smiling because I was so proud of him.

It wasn’t always like that. He is an AF vet (1952-1972)...despised Clinton, voted for Bush in 2000, but was totally against going to war in Iraq. That was the turning point for him. He’s also retired living in FL and has been disgusted with what he’s seen in the aging retirement population down there...mainly lack of medical care for many who just don’t have the means...but he does though....he has great medical care/benefits, etc. Feels like lying, greedy wall street types have wrecked our economy...has bought into the “hope and change” BHO promised.
In Utopia, maybe. But that is unrealistic in the world in which we live. And he's naive to think so.
That's why it's called the "Nuclear Genie" -- it's next to impossible to get it back in the bottle. And if you're lucky enough to do (say like Belgium or Canada), some other country or faction will rub their lamp and release their Genie...
