North Korea's nuclear test is a "matter of grave concern," President Obama said Monday, as officials in Washington accused the rogue regime of blatantly defying the international community.
The communist country said it had carried out a powerful underground nuclear test, much larger than one conducted in 2006. The regime also test-fired three short-range, ground-to-air missiles later Monday from the same northeastern site where it launched a rocket last month, the Yonhap news agency reported, citing unnamed sources.
The twin moves were roundly condemned in Washington.
"These actions, while not a surprise given its statements and actions to date, are a matter of grave concern to all nations," Obama said in a written statement, calling them an apparent violation of international law. "North Korea's attempts to develop nuclear weapons, as well as its ballistic missile program, constitute a threat to international peace and security."

Wow, now I feel much safer after Obama speaks.
Obama has a mean streak, a very mean streak. This Korean president may not be long for this world. IMHO.
Maybe that’s just it. He’s already had a stroke or two, knows his time is limited, and possibly he wants to take lots of people with him. That’s likely, given the temperment of his family.
"We'll give you nuclear power if you promise not to use it for weapons. Deal?"
CNN actually did 10 mins this morning on the tone of this letter and how Obama is now talking stronger...LMFAO....you just can’t make this stuff up.
The pundits all agreed on 3 things...
1. Obama wants to talk his way out of world problems and there will be nothing done in response but this letter
2. Obama is showing his chops as a skilled communicator and sticking to his word on no pre-emptive attacks.
3. That North Korea can most likely hit Hawaii now and the nations seeking nuclear weapons and technology have a source to go now...for sure.
Is “recklessly challenging” another way to call Kim Jon Il “ poopy pants “ ????
Hans Brix!
You’re bweaking my bawls, Hans, you’re bweaking my bawls....
So, Snobama, what the heck are you going to DO about it? I know you’re a good talker.
What are you going to DO?
kick kim’s ass
>>I can’t say that I blame Obama for the N. Korean mess<<
I can. Not so much Obama, but his party. Notice this test didn’t take place when Bush was in office. North Korea knows they have another Clinton type pacifist, weak kneed person in the WH.
Not reckless, smart. They know that under Bush such tests would have consequences. Under Obama, well, we will send them money to pay for more tests.
OMG no, Obama is going to get really mad and Write a Letter... better watch out Kim Jong Il you are making the Bama mad at you...
Like it matters sheesh, to the world we are a laughing stock
>Unfortunately that will be of little comfort to the millions that will die in the initial attack and the war that follows.<
But it will disclose what the dems are really all about and hopefully it will be the end of them.
>I wonder if the ACLU will enjoy being ruled from a mosque.<
The ACLU have been pushing for the establishment of sharia law anyway.
So if the “world community” cannot stop one tinpot dictator from developing and testing nuclear weapons behind a border, just minutes’ missile flight from a rich thriving metropolis - directly threatening two rather formidable US allies.
How exactly is it, the world is allegedly going to be rid of nuclear weapons? You know, the US unilateral disarmament thing??
How is that Kumbayah thing, supposed to work exactly?
NK: “We have nuke now, you do what we say or else!!”
Obama: “Kumbayah, my Lord, Kumbayah!!”
NK: “BOOM!”
