HAZLET, N.J. (AP) - The owner of a New Jersey pest control company has been charged with animal cruelty after a squirrel was found dead in a rooftop trap.
Chief Buddy Amato says a professional complex hired Critter Ridder to help get rid of the squirrel. He says a trap was set Wednesday for the animal, and no one returned to check on it.
Amato says the squirrel was found "cooked to death on the hot roof" Thursday afternoon.
Buck faces four counts of animal cruelty, including one that cites her for not providing the squirrel with adequate food, water and shelter.

If you ever run over an opossum, stop and check if she was carrying babies. Bring them or report it to an wild animal rescue.
If you don't do this, then you will run over a porcupine who will puncture your tires. ;)
I actually removed the babies and took them to a shelter once.
Hey Matt, I just saw an end tag on a movie that said “No animals were harmed during filming, though the humans didn’t fare as well”. Squirrels? I thought .22’s were developed just for them. And we do seem to be re-approaching a time where the cute tree rats have to be considered a food source.
This one also bowls me over (bowls of squirrel stew with carrots and stuff...mmmm) because squirrels, like pigeons, are regarded as endangered species rather than the overabundant pests they actually are.
But hey, try explaining reality to a young liberal appointee who’s kid just cried to him about how Rocket J.’s modern fictional equivalent is being cruelly tortured to death. We’re going to see a lot more of this idiocy in this Obama-nation.
Let me guess, you think a dead rat is terrible, but you will support killing human babies.
Try living with one of these in your house. You will change your tune fast.
No wonder you people are called animal rights wackos, the description fits you well.
“If you ever run over an opossum, stop and check if she was carrying babies.”
If so, be sure to back up and run over them as well!
Worse is when a family of these buggers find their way in, and can’t figure their way out. The smell is atrocious.
Wrong guess. I am pro-life from conception to natural death and I support humane treatment of animals.
I have nothing against catching them in a trap. My problem is with them not checking the trap and allowing the squirrel to roast to death.
Yes, the company should hire a person to “trap-sit” each and every trap it sets so no widdle animals are discomfited. And the State should create a Commission of Animal Trap Sitters to monitor every trap to make sure it has the State-certified Trap Sitter. The State should look after everything for us.
I used to trap these fast-breeding rats in my backyard and they got LOTS of water, much more than they cared for.
If the Judge doesn’t throw this out then the next step is to charge the guys at the meat packing plant for murder. I still say give NJ to the crows.
See 29. Perhaps you can volunteer your time to be a trap sitter.
If the economy totally tanks, we’ll be stewing these critters for sure!
Whatever, you do realize squirrels are classified as vermin for a reason. Live with one in your house, and you will change your tune quickly.
These filthy beasts can quickly rack up thousands of dollars of damage easily. I believe in the humane treatment of animals, but I am not wacky like you to place any value in these chewing critters.
The only defense the sane have against the madness of Political Correctness is for the *victim* --in this case Critter Ridder-- to demand a jury trial, then have at least one person refuse to vote guilty on any charge.
Bog these misfits and the ideally just legal system they've usurped down so badly the misfits will have to look elsewhere to feed their curiously insane need to *punish*.
If jury nullification worked for a bloody OJ Simpson?
JN will work just fine for victims of this out-of-control insanity and horrendous WASTE of taxpayer dollars, too. :^)
Absolutely. I prefer animals die the way nature intended; ripped apart by a predator and half eaten before they’re quite dead.
When did I ever imply I want one in my house? I just said the traps should have been checked so the squirrel didn’t roast to death.
Guess they’re after me too. Squirrels have a short life expectancy on my property...especially since they’ve taken to gnawing on my porch rails and the wood door frames on my garage.

Avoid the brains - it’s been suggested they transmit CreutzfeldtJakob disease.
