WASHINGTON President Obama told human rights advocates at the White House on Wednesday that he was mulling the need for a preventive detention system that would establish a legal basis for the United States to incarcerate terrorism suspects who are deemed a threat to national security but cannot be tried, two participants in the private session said.
The discussion, in a 90-minute meeting in the Cabinet Room that included Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. and other top administration officials, came on the eve of a much-anticipated speech Mr. Obama is to give Thursday on a number of thorny national security matters, including his promise to close the detention center at the naval base in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.
Human rights advocates are growing deeply uneasy with Mr. Obamas stance on these issues, especially his recent move to block the release of photographs showing abuse of detainees, and his announcement that he is willing to try terrorism suspects in military commissions a concept he criticized bitterly as a presidential candidate.

INDEED.
Thanks for your kind reply.
There was a post just a few days ago from a Freeper whose son was allowed to debate the abortion issue. The whole class was against him and the one other pro-life person at the beginning. They argued, pleaded, shared facts, to no avail. Finally one morning they came in before class and put up pictures all around the classroom of aborted babies (I believe he said the teacher was a conservative ex-Marine who was okay with this). The ENTIRE CLASS changed their minds, some of the girls nearly sick & in tears, but the message was brought home. I wish I had bookmarked that thread, it was on one of the ones about Notre Dame recently. That doesn’t answer your question, but maybe it is just time now for all of us to stand up and have courage to say and do the right thing. If things ever get as insane here as it was in Russia, trying to hide our views or be wishy washy won’t protect us. It seems it was an epidemic of fear that brought them to that position. Easy for me to say now when I’m not risking anything but I just believe if more Christians/conservatives had courage to speak out things would change. My two cents...
Biggest mistake they ever made.
Thanks for your 2 cents! (Boy - sure get your money’s worth around here!).
That is a great idea. Put in some photos of cat-scans of a fetus at the various stages and then at birth. Followed by images of the aborted baby at each stage.
Think about it!
vaudine
Yup..
Heck, we're all on it anyway, if we have been the least bit activist about our rights, or ever decried the crap the Government has pulled. We are 'dissidents', and we are armed, 'nuff said.
As for the ones who would hide under the bed with the dust kittens, they should expect no kinder, gentler treatment. If anyone gets dragged to the camps, they'll go, too, only in shame that just having made their voice heard might have made the difference.
Sure, some people think that by "compromising" they can avoid being branded, but in for a penny, and in for a pound. (The alphabet soup agency guys will still trash your place and grill you about the 'off the books' weapons you are sure to have...)
I'm well enough known among the local constabulary, and have held a CCW permit for over 10 years, NRA for 20, etc. I have filled out enough 4473s to come up on the screen.
And anyone who has filled out one will be on there sooner or later.
There is no way to stay off the radar without some really careful moves, and most people have already got their name on 'the list' before they even think about staying off it.
Hmm....let’s see now. Preventive detention. Uh...wouldn’t that kinda be relying on “”profiling””? And...isn’t that sorta un-PC, not to mention bigoted, according to the libs/leftists? Oh wait. We’re probatly only talking about detaining white, Christian non-leftists(conservatives) here, no doubt.
Nevermind.
Pitchfork time YET????
All us right wing bitter, Bible and gun clinging, non-conformist domestic terror threats no doubt.
Not unless the one being profiled is in one of their favored groups. It's OK if they do it to normal people.
Hmmmm.....so anybody who demands the Federal Gov’mt restrict its scope and activities to strict Constitutional limits....even if this will be required to maintain Federal solvency and liquidity will be verboten?!!
Richard Nixon was one of the people who helped capture Alger Hiss, a Soviet spy. For that, he earned the undying wrath of the Left.
Didn’t I see something like this in some movie called “Minority Report” ???
You weren't the only one who saw this similarity. I wonder what they will use for the "halo"
Interesting that you should say that. If I were O's enforcers, I would start out with voter registrations. All non-Dems go into the pool. Then start sub categorizing via other red flags that are a matter of public record. Membership in organizations like the NRA, any sort of conservative interest group or lobbying group, Christian related organizations, any sort of connection that implies a resistance to "GroupThink".
I would keep records of all phone call numbers to Dem congressman and the WH. Ditto for any written correspondence to same. Pretty easy to create a formidable relational database.
Crawl the web, take legal action against conservative online groups that forces them to give me any and all personal info on members and posters. Ex: all the CC records from the Freepathon. You donate $10 to FR and you are marked.
It is basically impossible to have ever expressed an opinion critical of liberalism that won't implicate you in a way that I can't find.
And there will always be the low tech tried and true tactic of rewarding our liberal neighbors and coworkers for spying on us and reporting us. Read some of the lib sites, these people are salivating at the possibility of reporting on others and seeing them sent off for "re-education".
Once it begins in earnest, it will be a dam breaking.
Add in the NICS data the BATF was not supposed to keep, and there is a substantial list going back years.
It would not take much more, since no warrant is required when 'terrorism' is involved, to go after people ordering ammo on the net, gun parts, web gear, magazines, rifle scopes and other optics, and the list goes on and on.
Maybe those are all the jobs the Obamites are whipping up, aside from 'camp counselors' and other lovelies, be it for all those 'volunteering' kids, or their recalcitrant parents.
At any rate, I am sure there is a long list of criteria which the obamites can use to screen mountains of data.
So, it comes down to this: you can stand and be counted, and by that act if no other, perhaps cause this juggernaut to slow or even stop its progress, or you can lay down and get run over by it.
I'd rather go out on my feet if it comes to that.
Does that make me an 'extremist'? Only if being a coward has become the norm.
If we do not stand up for our rights when it only takes a word, a letter, unashamedly decrying the absolute anti-Constitutional crap this administration is pulling, who among us will have the guts to stand armed against it?
For now, we have a war of words and ideas. We have ample supplies of both, even as people stockpile for a less desireable outcome.
I have little doubt that should the political divide be filled with violence, the UN will, if the Socialist forces start losing, step in, balkanize, occupy, and 'peacekeep' us, and our Nation will be divided and done.
The only way to stop their intimidation is to counter intimidate, to stand tall and unapologetic for our God-given rights, our Constitution, and our Country. We owe it to our children's children.
Yup, either patriotic American's speak out while they are a force to be reckoned with, or give up a defensible political position through cowardice and then lose much more.
Yeah, that was a damn good rant, especially the part about involuntary organ donation.
First, they will be put on "lists" compiled by HS. Mike Savage is on a terrorist watch list in Britain. I wonder who put him there?
I concur with all but this. The UN can't and couldn't muster enough manpower and hardware to occupy a major state. I also don't think any of the UN players that would be needed have the balls, or practically speaking, the resources.
The US is a very large country with a great diversity in geography. The logistics of occupying this country against a hostile populace are almost beyond comprehension. And the populace is better armed than probably any other in the industrialized west.
People are apparently willing to let our own government enslave us, but foreign troops? Not going to happen. No, I think our real peril lies within. Treachery on the part of your liberal neighbors.
