WASHINGTON President Obama told human rights advocates at the White House on Wednesday that he was mulling the need for a preventive detention system that would establish a legal basis for the United States to incarcerate terrorism suspects who are deemed a threat to national security but cannot be tried, two participants in the private session said.
The discussion, in a 90-minute meeting in the Cabinet Room that included Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. and other top administration officials, came on the eve of a much-anticipated speech Mr. Obama is to give Thursday on a number of thorny national security matters, including his promise to close the detention center at the naval base in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.
Human rights advocates are growing deeply uneasy with Mr. Obamas stance on these issues, especially his recent move to block the release of photographs showing abuse of detainees, and his announcement that he is willing to try terrorism suspects in military commissions a concept he criticized bitterly as a presidential candidate.

The problem is—according to the living, breathing, empathetic Constitution—conservatives (like unborn children) are not `persons’, while foreign (illegal) enemy combatants (much like “undocumented immigrants” and their offspring are victims of racist American nativists) are not only persons, and entitled to `3 hots and a cot’, medical care, jobs and 600 thread count sheets, but adherents to the Religion of Peace and innocent victims of torture perpetrated by the diabolical Bush administration.

Good point. I still stand by my own interpretation though. We all know that the Supreme Court is a joke when coming to interpretatin the Constitution.

It is perfectly legal under the Constitution to hold foreign illegal enemy combatants that are captured by our military waging war against the United States.
hmmm...let's see...President fires GM CEO, bank CEOs, Investment firms CEOs.....Transfers ownership to Unions and forces bond holders to accept pennies on the dollar.
That's not within the powers of the president as set forth in the Constitution.....but he did it anyway....
That does not happen. Sex offenders (especially pedophiles) are the first to get out of legal trouble or the first to be let off with minimum sentence, the first to be released from prison, and sex offenders are the first in line to continue their crime spree after release.
Drug offenders are the ones that are deemed un-releasable and left in the prisons to rot, it happens all the time. People who are only a harm to themselves are punished more severely than people who are a danger to others.
I am not trying to defend Obama. I agree with you on those issues but just not on this one.
Put me in a cell with Coulter, or Monica Crowley. Then leave us alone, solitary like.
