“Be open minded, Dave, for some fairtaxers realy want to fill it with crap...”
Fairtax is a joke, and financially educated people know it.
Actually, Dave is a big fan of the FairTax. Yes, he made some of these statements, but not as a opponent. He supports it and speaks very highly of Linder and Boortz. I’m kind of surprised at this rant from Boortz.
I used to listen daily to Neal, however after I bought and read one of his books I realized that there is a ton of inconsistency in his opinions. Then I discovered Dave, started working Dave’s plan and haven’t looked back.
Great under this plan we will have more people rushing towards their mail boxes for their government checks at the first of the month! And isn't it going to be great when the government decides how much food and basic necessities you deserve for the month?
Battle of the talk radio talkers! ;-)

The fairtax is not fair.
Why in the hell do I want to pay 23% in taxes if I should ever buy another house?
Unless the loan is interest free, forget that crap.
I went to that site and used their calculator for two different scenarios. Based on the same income, a married person with 2 knds would get money back. A single person with no kids would pay more.
Is there any tax system on the planet that does not penalize some, in favor of those who use more resources?
Hewitt has had as a sponsor for ten years on his radio show the "Mortgage Minute Guy", and has always been a defender of the mortgage deduction for that reason.
I don't know why Dave Ramsey is down on it: I am for something other than the current privacy-invading IRS and the thousand+ page Tax Code.
Just as an FYI, this is what Neal has currently on his nuze page.

DAVE RAMSEY AND THE FAIRTAX

We need to kiss and make up. Really, we do. As I understand it Dave said on his show yesterday that he got it a bit wrong when he wrote about the FairTax on Townhall.com. Now I’m trying to get him on the air so we can swap some spit. No problem, Dave! All’s well.
I can see all kinds of problems right off the bat with defining what foods are taxed and what aren't, what constitutes 'basic clothing', and what is a necessity and what isn't. Would caviar be taxed? Sirloin steak? Lobster? How many shirts, socks, trousers, sets of underwear, etc. am I allowed under 'basic clothing'? How will I know when I exceed the limits? Is highspeed interned a necessity? How about air conditioning? Is TV a necessity, and if so would my 42" Plasma TV be tax free? I like to read, how about books? Are my books taxed or just some of them? Is a car a necessity? If so, will a high end BMW be tax free? There are almost too many questions that would need answering before someone can take the Fairtax seriously.
The truth is that the fair tax works a lot better because not only is privacy respected, also because it forces government to LIVE IN ITS MEANS.
