A fast spinning windmill appeared "out of control," and threatened traffic on the highway between Los Angeles County's high desert and the San Joaquin Valley, a CHP dispatcher in Bakersfield said today.
The CHP dispatcher said the windmill is spinning too fast and might fly apart, which is why Highway 58 in the Tehachapi Pass was closed down both directions between Mojave and about 45 miles north of Lancaster and Tehachapi.
The malfunctioning electric generator is one of thousands of windmills installed along both sides of Highway 58 in Tehachapi Pass.
Traffic was being detoured onto parallel county roads. Traffic from the L.A. area was being directed to westbound Rosamond Boulevard to Willow Springs Road, and then that road north to Tehachapi.
At midafternoon, the CHP was calling the windmill's owners to see if it could be shut down.

Someone should figure out how much gasoline was wasted by detouring cars, and send the bill to Obama. Or Al Gore.

I thought they could adjust the blade pitch for wind speed, or shut it down completely when the wind is too high.

One of those blades could easily kill someone, and if so, the death toll from wind energy would exceed the death toll from nuclear energy (not including weapons) by infinity percent. Yet 0bama wants more wind. Lots and lots more wind.

Nothing like a beautiful landscape (as per the Greenies), dotted with inefficient, taxpayer-subsidized, 30% availability wind turbines!

CHP dispatcher said the windmill is spinning too fast Was it going ludicrous speed? That would really be dangerous if true. You simply cannot stop anything going ludicrous speed.
you have to slow down first!

No problemo.
I gave up trying to post straight threads a long time ago anyway. (I don’t mean it the way that sounds either.);-)

You mean they actually turned those things on? Everytime I went over the Altamont on my way to San Fran, the turbines were turned off. Seems somebody found a dead bird or something.
