Open Letter to Freepers: The U.S. As You've Known It Is Already Dead
Reuters via The Star Online ^

While reading the following news story:

http://uk.reuters.com/article/motoringAutoNews/idUKTRE5406CF20090501

----------------

I was reminded two very important quotes from John Adams about the American Revolution:

* As to the history of the revolution, my ideas may be peculiar, perhaps singular. What do we mean by the Revolution? The war? That was no part of the revolution; it was only an effect and consequence of it. The revolution was in the minds of the people, and this was effected from 1760 - 1775, in the course of fifteen years, before a drop of blood was shed at Lexington. o Letter to Thomas Jefferson (1815-08-24), The Works of John Adams

What do we mean by the American Revolution? Do we mean the American war? The Revolution was effected before the war commenced. The Revolution was in the minds and hearts of the people; a change in their religious sentiments, of their duties and obligations... This radical change in the principles, opinions, sentiments, and affections of the people was the real American Revolution. * Letter to H. Niles (1818-02-13)

----------------

In other words, years before the American Revolution, there had been a revolution in people's minds about the way things were and the way things should be.

Forget the disputes over just how real are Obama's high poll numbers. This is beyond Obama, or even his current followers.

Whether we realize it or not, the US went through another mental revolution of thought over the past few decades -- maybe beginning as far back as the anti-war protests of the 1960s, maybe to Roosevelt's New Deal, maybe to Lincoln forcing a more centralized Union...whatever.

This revolution of thought has slowly eroded the entire mental foundation of the country's founding principles.

The U.S., as it was and as many of us here still think of it, is already gone. Dead. A number of us have not fully caught up to this emerging reality.

Obama, and Bush before him, are only making that obvious. Steele, Arlen Spectre, the feckless GOP, all the rest -- it's all part of bigger picture already drawn and entrenched, maybe even before many of us were born.

Many of us are holding onto a mental artifact that is gone or never existed in the minds of our "fellow Americans." That remains true no matter what happens to Obama, long after he's gone.

Does that mean we give up? No. But that if you're making a personal decision not to give up, you have to start thinking more seriously about follow-up to those Tea Parties and perhaps to secession.

The U.S. is, beyond everything else, an idea. When our "fellow Americans" no longer share the basic elements of that idea -- of even basic standards of mutual respect, logic, reason, civil discourse, respect for others as equals -- our "fellow Americans" are no longer our "fellow Americans."

Plan accordingly.

“Sooner or later, he WILL say something to blow himself up.”

I think he has already said things...here is just the latest:

“I will seek someone who understands that justice isn’t about some abstract legal theory or footnote in a case book. It is also about how our laws affect the daily realities of people’s lives,” Obama told reporters after speaking with Souter by telephone. Obama promised to name a Supreme Court justice who combines “empathy and understanding”

Clearly anti-constitution...that alone should have rattled a few cages....but...Obama is not hiding what he is about. People are so uneducated or complacent that they don’t see their liberties being stripped away. It is going to have to be something really simple...easily understood.

Wrongo, my friend. The U.S. Constitution is still the law of the land. The country will only cease to exist once that document is absolved.

Obama is, as with all sociopathic narcissists, self consumed. He has the mental and emotional capacity of a spoiled petulant child.

We need to poke him with a sharp stick, over and over again to induce a public meltdown. I believe that the sharpest weapon in our arsenal is the eligibility issue.
If Obama ever had to publicly address concerns over his natural born status on a repeated basis...it would be his undoing.

We’re just almost dead. We’re in captivity by majority vote. The dictatorial majority fall into some of the following categories (feel free to add).

1. People with a financial stake in government control of industry, (e.g., trial lawyers, the autoworkers union, the teachers union, government workers, cornaholics, windmill operators)
2. star struck girls (Barbra Steisand, Rosie O’Donnell, Chris Mathews)
3. clueless kids
4. Radicals (ACORN, Indignant professors, Obama’s teleprompter)
5. The Media

Is there any chance that the ranks of our oppressors can lose their majority status?
The situation is obviously hopeless for Categories 1 , 2, and 4. Regarding Category 1, one might think that the bad economy will lead to subsistence farming among the productive and that those who don’t have real jobs will starve. But thuggish tax collectors will only confiscate whatever the surviving dirt farmers produce. The last two people on earth will be a tax collector and a lawyer that cannibalizes him.

But there’s hope for Categories 3 and 5. Some people in Category 3 may outlive their parents and have to get a real job. This could convert them to conservatism.

As for Category 5, it is evident that media workers will outlive newspapers, which are going out of business largely because of plunging literacy rates (In recent weeks, both Congress and Obama denied funding for vouchers and charter schools in Washington DC).

So I don’t think we’re quite dead yet. How can I be dead if I’m in denial?

Here is what I was referring to with Kinsley. Also, we have the Lefty Pew coming out with a “study” that fingers Christian church goers as those who support “torture.”

“The Fairness Doctrine is only the beginning.”

We had a fairness doctrine and that was removed by President Reagan. The country did not cease to be because of it. It may well be only the beginning...only the beginning of the end for liberal socialists.

When an American President threatens a private citizen, with retribution FROM THE PRESS, for not surrendering a legal contract he holds and not one word of it is mentioned in the press ... it's dead.

The rewards for joining the political class cannot be beaten any place in the economy, except in the entertainment and sports fields, where chances of succeeding are slim. What to do? get a degree in political science, or law, volunteer licking envelopes and making cold calls at your congresscritter's office, and you're on your way. Once in, you're never out!

We think we kicked out Tom Daschle from the political class. How many $ millions did we learn he had earned since that event? All from having been a member (and still being a member) of the political class. All of the faces in the White House today have a unwritten guarantee not to have to work for the rest of their lives after they leave. TV, publishers are waiting. Not bad, huh?

That's why the smart parents of girls like Monica and Chandra do the best to ensure not their daughters' best education, but their best chances to become c___suckers of politicians in Washington even at the risk of losing their lives. It's a racket and so many play the game. No sympathy here for the parents of Monica and Chandra.

Thank you. Kinsley is nuts and seems to want to get not only Bush but everybody who voted for him. Kinsley will probably get his wish, too.

Secession will be the news of the day a year from now. Mark my words.

Some may read that as glib, but I am ever astounded at the way that reality unfolds.

None of us, caught up in the election at this time last year could have forseen the absolutely mind-boggling changes that have occurred in the last six months.

A year ago, the talk was of Bear Stern, and who could believe it?

Then, after the Conventions, stuff began to roll downhill fast, with threats of the global economy melting overnight, a $550 Billion dollar run on the banks, the handover of a blank check to Wall Street with no questions asked, multiple trillion dollar "stimulus" bills and budgets passed by Congress, without ever having been read, the takeover of the auto industry, the takeover underway of the health care sector, the outing of our Intelligence appartus, and on and on

Would we have believed ANY of this a year ago ?

No, my friend, we must revisit this thread a year from now to see if talk of secession bears some fruit or is just another phenomena like Y2K.
