What are the chances that the UAW membership will accept responsibility for their own greed and refusal to face reality in the loss of another 21,000 jobs?

I thought so.

Does anyone think the Government Motors experiment will end well, for anyone?

They can build Volgas. but can they sell Volgas ...

Chrysler and GM should never have taken federal funds...and we can all blame Bush for that.

These companies should have gone through chapter 11 last year and restructured to eliminate the bleeepin unions.

It’s difficult to make a profit in the auto industry if one’s sales are below the breakeven point. Two ways to fix - increase sales, cut costs to lower the breakeven point.

Really? You can blame Bush? Bush simply released loans that had been approved by Congress way before this fiasco. Get your facts straight!

I had a 1990 Grand Prix. It had some tweaky problems but it was so much fun to drive. We had to abandon the two-door routine when our son was born.

My dad is a GM retiree and our economy in MI is horrible, so I’ve been keeping an eye on the the not-so-big three. The consensus is that they should NEVER have made a deal with the governmental devil.

Sorry to hear that. Some Pontiac models are very popular and well-built, most notably the G-6, which I drive now.

It hasn’t happened in Dayton OH where multiple GM plants sit idle surrounded by acres of empty asphalt.

The Dayton Daily News still employs an editorial board that trots out happy-face Marxism on a regular basis. Either they take a different route to work or in the end they don’t care about the unions or GM as long as the bad old GOP is held at bay.

Sad. I wanted to pick up a G8 but the prices aen’t so high they were out of my range. I just looked at a new RS Camaro. Pretty as a pin in red and black. Three hundred horse V6 unit. It stickered at 28K plus, almost 29K really, and the 3K of extra dealer profit put it over 31K. It was a nice car but it wasn’t 31K nice nor 28K nice either. The original price sheets I saw had this unit at about 24K. GM better better get a sense of what the public is willing to spend or they are done.

It’s hard to believe that they’d cut Oldsmobile and Pontiac, but keep BUICK! LOL. Guess they know what they are doing, though.

Now THAT’s a car.

There’s also an old movie from 1992: “God Drives a Pontiac.”

Article from the Columbus Dispatch with map on GM locations:

THe map of GM locations in Ohio:

Don’t forget all the tire, glass, tool & die, etc. support facilities throughout the midwest that support Detroit. These changes/closings are chopping up lots of places. I have heard tell that overtime at Honda around here is cut way back, as are employees now. The overtime cutback has caused financial hardship, as people had worked it for years. Someone I know tells us related business clients are closing daily.

Of course they know what they’re doing!

They’re taking billions of government money, shutting divisions and laying off tens of thousands with bankruptcy still looming!

That’s a sign of a highly successful business and true competence!

Well in 2007, Buick tied Lexus in the 3-year reliability ratings by JD Power.

In 2008, Buick and Jag tied for the top spot.

Still not enough. Why not go with the Toyota/Lexus, Nissan/Infiniti, Honda/Infiniti model? Go with Chevy/Cadillac move all truck sales to Chevy, dump GMC. Now is not the time for half measures
