APPENZELL, Switzerland Voters in the heart of the Swiss Alps on Sunday passed legislation banning nude hiking after dozens of mostly German nudists started rambling through their picturesque region.
By a show of hands citizens of the tiny state of Appenzell Inner Rhodes voted overwhelmingly at their traditional open-air annual assembly to impose a $176 fine on violators.
Only a scattering of people on Sunday opposed the ban on the back-to-nature activity that took off last autumn when naked hikers primarily Germans started showing up in eastern Switzerland.

I take it the nude hikers were precisely the people that you would never want to see hiking in the nude.
silly boys
Just look out for the bulls :-)

Good news because we’re going to the Alps this summer. :)
Nude hikers would leave quite an impression on my teenage daughter!
And me!!!
How about just rounding the number off? Sheesh.
(Yes, yes, I know, DM --> $ is not an exact figure.)
I guess that's one travel destination to strike from my list.
I hope this ban spreads to all of Switzerland’s cantons, on the principle that the people hiking nude are generally the ones you do NOT want to see nude!
Oh well, better off staying home I guess.
She would probably just say, “Eeewwwww. gross!” right before you covered her eyes. :-)
:)
Hey, I see from your freeper page, you’ve been to some of the same places we’re going to!
Care to freepmail me with some details?
Switzerland and Germany are nice. Especially Switzerland. If you travel over there, do it by train: gas is expensive, and Europe has a well-developed passenger rail network (subsidized, no doubt). Paris was OK, but the subway and RER (passenger rail) stations were probably the most colorful thing I saw in that city. Take the TGV (France’s high-speed train) if you can, and purchase a Eurail Pass to save money, if they still have those.
Canada is a beautiful country, at least from what I saw of it. Ontario 401, however, reminds me of the Matrix Reloaded freeway chase. Cars whizzing along 20 kph over the speed limit (one of them was mine). Vancouver, BC was nice, too.
The scenery out west is spectacular. I took two roadtrips out west (that’s why all those states are red).
:)
Pleased you enjoyed Switzerland because I’m especially excited about going there.
Sounds more low key and scenic.
Aside from the Louvre in Paris, I think that Switzerland will be one of my favorites.
Will also visit England, Liechtenstein, Austria, Italy and Germany.
I’m actually quite overwhelmed at times just thinking about it!
The Louvre is nice. It certainly looked better on the inside than on the outside when I was there (1986). And, since I wasn’t with some obnoxious tour group, I could wander around the way I wanted to. I wasn’t there very long, since I was on a day trip from Geneva, Switzerland, via the TGV.
You’ll love Switzerland. It was very clean over there, and the crime rate was low, when I was there.
I haven't been to Switzerland for many years. But that's what I remember. It looked like you could eat off the street almost everywhere.
