MANIPULATING CONSERVATIVES WON'T WORK
4/26/09 | Self

Posted on 04/26/2009 5:28:15 AM PDT by Nextrush

There was a lot of attention a few weeks ago when Sarah Palin packed the house in Evansville, Indiana for a speech at the Vanderburgh County Right To Life dinner.

A few days later I got word that the three thousand attendees obviously drawn to Sarah Palin had to listen to another speech that evening.

This one came from the Chairman of the Republican National Committee, Michael Steele. Steele was there to clean up the mess he's left behind by trashing conservatives and the pro-life position in previous statements.

It doesn't surprise me that this "I'm pro-life" propaganda speech occurred. The National Right To Life organization and its local affiliates like this group are closely tied to Republican political insiders.

Longtime National Right To Life General Counsel James Bopp is now a Vice Chairman of the RNC. That is visible evidence of how the "official" pro-life movement is now tied to the GOP insider leadership.

Its sad that Sarah Palin was used as bait to draw a crowd to hear Michael Steele.

April 15th featured tea parties across the nation with many being grassroots efforts and other "tea parties" strangely featuring politicians who promote less than conservative ideas.

Newt Gingrich and John Boehner were joined by local GOP poliicians and their reps at various venues across the country.

Near my home there was "tea party" in Harrisburg on the steps of the State Capitol. It featured talk show hosts and one politician I would have allowed to speak.

Republican State Senator Mike Folmer is a real and genuine outsider who beat GOP State Senate leader Chip Brighbill after Brightbill engineered massive pay raises for legislators in 2005.

Mr. Brightbill was Pro-Abortion throughout his political career as a state senator, yet the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation (the state affiliate of National Right To Life) put out radio ads promoting Brighbill as "pro-life."

Folmer, the real pro-life candidate, was not endorsed by the 'pro-life' group.

It was a pleasure to hear Senator Folmer speak, but just like Sarah Palin was used to draw a crowd for Michael Steele in Indiana, we also had to endure hearing from GOP State House leader Sam Rohrer along with the talk show hosts and Folmer.

Rohrer wants to eliminate property taxes for public schools by increasing items taxed by the six percent sales tax in Pennsylvania and add on a half percent personal income tax. A PIT would tax investment income along with paychecks.

There is nothing conservative about shifting taxes this way. Public education needs to cut back its lavish salaries, benefits and pensions in Pennsylvania.

Too often conservatives are manipulated by political insiders to promote their agendas.

These two examples should remind us that the fight ahead to change things in this country is not an easy one.

The last example from the "tea party" disappoints me but I hope we have some real 'tea parties' in the future that drive the politicians to some real changes.

Less government and lower taxes, period.

Steele is a RINO snake-in-the-grass, NOT to be trusted by Conservatives.

I understand your distrust of the RNC, but Steele, for all his faults, is pro-life. They wouldn't have let him in the door to that banquet otherwise.

I refer to it as the A$$-Clown RNC for a reason. That's why you see Republicans at the grass-roots taking matters into their own hands.

Steele has fired a lot of the hangers-on and Colonel Blimps who made our party corrupt and tone deaf. Give him a chance to turn the ship around.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

The main probelm with Repubs is they eat their own.

And...it will be our own demise. It has to stop.

This is great- the RNC is feeling left out of all the tea party hoopla and street level activism! Good. Where was their support over the last eight years of our frustration with big government?

They are getting what they deserve, like that SC Congressman who had the nerve to show up at a tea party and try to sell the ‘Republicans good/ Democrats evil’ line. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QsY2r7HbTM

The worst thing that can happen for conservatives is that the RNC gets involved in our movement. Politicians need to stay the hell away from us.

If the goal of the TEA Parties is just to recruit voters for the Republicans in 2010 then they are a waste of time.    By 2010 the Democrats will have done an enormous amount of damage to our republic.    I don't believe that the Republicans have the cajones to reverse what the Democrats will have done by then even if they win the House of Representatives back.    Even if they grew a pair, the Senate will still be in the clutches of the socialist so any cleanup will still be limited.    So the goal of the TEA Parties needs to be something that does not depend on the Republican Party at all.

I went to a TEA Party to protest the Federal out-of-control spending and violation of the Tenth Amendment by primarily Democrats but some Republicans also.

Really? I thought the main problem was that we have too many of them who aren’t really Repubs.

Steele is just an afirmative action chairman so the nation can see Republicans can get a black guy, too. Ask yourself the same question we did about Nobama? If he were white, would he be in this position?

Gee I guess I should vote FOR the next RINO the Ohio GOP uses to replace Voinovich. Most likely will be someone even more left the RINO...

Not going to happen. The RNC needs to get the point we will not support the socialist agendas of both the RNC and DNC.

1. Stopped giving money to the RNC
2. Tea Party
3. Ranted at RNC Phone Bank operators who call(they could care less)
4. Time to petition the party for a redress of our grievances

Agreed to a point. That point being we need to start acting like the special interest group we are. Politicians need to stay away from us, but we need to be in their face. I sort of feel like if we can't call a Politician a Statesman...then he is of no value to the Republic.

I disagree, the main problem with repubs is that they cave to liberals too easily on core issues and leave conservatives hanging in the breeze for self political gain - sis on em pister.

Do you remember Ronald Reagan’s famous quip, “I didn’t leave the Democratic Party, the party left me.”?

Reagan stayed true to his CORE PRINCIPLES.

That is what this is all about, staying true to your CORE PRINCIPLES.

The RINOs who infest the GOP did NOT STAY TRUE TO THEIR CORE PRINCIPLES. Do not compromise what you believe in.

Life, Liberty, the Pursuit of Happiness.

Defender of the Unborn.
Smaller Government
Lower Taxes.
National Sovreignty.
Defend our country.

NEVER COMPROMISE!!!

Re Reagan.

What’s it tell you about the modern Republican Party that Reagan, a Democrat....WAS TOO CONSERVATIVE for the RNC/GOP elite?

Actually... he has said he is pro life but understands the need for pro choice. You see... that is steele’s problem. He said this more than once while guest hosting for Bill Bennett's “Morning in America” radio show. Someone posted a quote from steele here on FR where he uses even stronger language. steele is one problem we face.

I’ve no great love for Mr. Steele, personally. Likewise, other so-called “moderates.” It’s not that I have any particular animus, either. I just feel that their proper place is, at best, on the sidelines, and that conservatives, only, should be directing the party. It isn’t possible for someone to convince me that, in light of the last two elections, we should become more like the democrats to retrieve lost power. Wait, take back one small amount of that last remark. We could certainly stand to be more organized, as well as more generally pointed in the direction we’d most like to travel. Other than that, not only no, but Hell no. I do agree with you about the misuse of Governor Palin. You would think that the RNC would recognize star power, whether they want to see it or not, when they run across it. I guess not. But the RNC will not obtain my money again without running a candidate I truly support, on a platform that I feel is good for the country. I wanted to like Senator McCain. Still feel dirty from that, though. I voted for Governor Palin, not McCain. And my wife, who did not vote EVER, did likewise. That isn’t necessarily saying we’d support her without knowing what the platform would be, just that we both felt much more comfortable with someone being themselves, not so much “positioned.”
