The "swine flu" that has infected more than 1,000 people in Mexico has led a lawmaker on the House Homeland Security Committee to call on U.S. officials to close the southern border.
Rep. Eric Massa (D-N.Y.) said the border should be closed until the threat is resolved.
"The public needs to be aware of the serious threat of swine flu, and we need to close our borders to Mexico immediately and completely until this is resolved," Massa said in a statement.
"I am making this announcement because I see this as a serious threat to the health of the American public and I do not believe this issue is receiving the attention it needs to have in the news," Massa said.

This will never happen. This pol is just covering his a— so if a huge outbreak occurs, he can boast, “Hey, I was the first to call to close the border.” It would make a great campaign ad.
Did you ever consider that celebrities, living in an insulated environment and lied to every day by their hangers-on, might be idiots? Diseases don’t pay attention to levels of income or “politically correct” attitudes.
The border must be sealed.

Ha...fat chance of that happening. We had 9/11 and the borders should have been secured 9/12. Didn’t happen. Deadly flu...not a chance. In fact, I would not be surprised one bit if this is used as an excuse to keep the borders open. Remember the SPP...lots of information there about cooperating with Mexico during pandemics. I wonder if that includes any agreement for “shared resources”, i.e., medical care.
I also wonder if they’ll stop the protests of the millions of “immigrants” who are planning to take to the streets here on May 1.

I wonder just how “fine” he is. I find it interesting that the man who has found ANY little excuse to get his mugg on TV has not shown up over this....unless I missed it?
What if this was done on purpose? Look at what’s been going on with this admin. Conservatives are right wing extremists; all guns need to be registered; activities not related to liberalism are being monitored...
You know a nice little pandemic would be a way to quarantine people, towns, cities, etc. Quite a convenient way to control the masses under martial law, or something close to it.
After all, Zero needs to complete his 3.5 years to fulfill his vision.

Bingo! You know what prompted this? A school in Queens sent children on a field trip to Mexico and the kids came back with it. My guess is the school is in this Congressman’s district.
This thing could jump to all of New York City in a few days.

My bsediments exactly Frantzie. Its all just a little too convenient...I mentioned to a FReeper the other day, what if our troops are being kept out of the country also? I know our troops are honorable, and would do nothing except honor the constitution...but what if the constitution is being breached?
Also, look at the post by one of our soldiers who said he was asked to fill out paperwork regarding his firearms, and he’s stationed here stateside.
