Bloomberg Appears to Cinch Republican Nomination (NYC Mayor)
Ballot Access News ^ | 4-12-09 | Richard Winger

According to an article in the New York Daily News of April 11, Mayor Mike Bloomberg has now secured the support of the county chair of the Bronx Borough Republican Party. New York election laws permit an independent (or a member of another party) to run in a party primary for Mayor of New York City, if that candidate gets permission to run from 3 of the 5 boroughs of the city. Bloomberg had already been endorsed for re-election this year by the leaders of the Brooklyn and Staten Island Republican Parties. Bloomberg has been a registered independent since late in 2007, and he expects to continue to be an independent.

It is difficult to remember any other instance at which the Republican Party of any state has nominated a registered independent for an important partisan office. Of course, Bloomberg has not formally been nominated yet. The primary is in September 2009. However, no one expects him to have any trouble winning the Republican primary. The only suspense had been whether the Republicans would let him run in their primary. Bloomberg has also recently been assured that he may run in the Independence Party primary. Thanks to Bill Van Allen for the link.

As you know Bloomberg is a liberal democrat who bought the GOP nomination for NYC mayor in 2001. He then left the party to plot some "independent" liberal shenanigans before deciding to bribe people to overturn the term limits law. Now he wants to run as a Republican again. Looks like he will as the pathetic NYC GOP looks set to back this Napoleonic wanna be dictator pinko.

The GOP is dead, it just doesn’t know it yet. It’s like a headless chicken still trotting around the chopping block.

We need a new 2nd party. The RINO party is finished.

Bloomberg is trying to help the Rodents in VA. He is running ads blaming Bob McDonnell for the Va Tech shootings.

So much for republican principles, they've gone the way of the DODO birds.

Y'all remember this the next time someone calls asking you for money.

Maybe Bloomie has promised to foot all the bills!

Wasn’t the term limit law under a court challenge?

The other question is if he is still popular enough to win re-election. We’ll see.

It doesn’t appear any legal challenge will be successful.

Last month a poll put his approval rating at 64%.

He takes “RINO” to it’s literal extreme.

Here in cook county IL the GOP will likely run democrat Paul Vallas for County Board Chairman.

Giuliani did the heavy lifting for reform in NYC. Yet New Yorkers love Bloomberg and dislike Giuliani.

Re: “It doesn’t appear any legal challenge will be successful.

***************

Not shocking his poll number would be that high considering he is not even close to leaning Republican — his constituents know full well he is a Dim and that’s fine with them — call him whatever party “name” you want, just call him! He doesn’t appear anxious to exit the limelight anytime soon.

Hell, he might as well try to grab the Democrat line while he’s at it. Napoleon Boneberg must be coronated again.

That’s ludicrous... He’s mostly a lib, but he’s WAY better than a commie/marxist (which would be the alternative).

Really? I fail to see a distinction.
