Foolproofing Suicide with Euthanasia Test Kits
TIME/Yahoo News ^ | 4/14/09 | William Lee Adams

When someone with a terminal illness decides to end their life by overdosing on barbiturates, they hope the drugs will lull them into a peaceful and permanent sleep. But if the drugs have passed their expiration date or lack a sufficiently lethal concentration, the would-be suicide victim may actually survive - risking an array of complications including coma, reduced physical functioning and the opprobrium of disapproving friends and family. Now, in an effort to provide certainty to those contemplating suicide, one of the world's leading euthanasia advocates plans to sell barbiturate testing kits to confirm that deadly drug cocktails are, in fact, deadly.

"People who are seriously ill don't want to experiment," says Dr. Philip Nitschke, the physician known as 'Dr. Death' for his efforts to legalize euthanasia in his native Australia. "They want to know they have the right concentration of drugs so that if they take them in the suggested way it will provide them with a peaceful death."

The kits, which will debut in Britain in May and retail for $50, include a syringe that allows users to extract half a milliliter of barbiturate solution without breaking the sanitary seal. "Clearly sterility doesn't matter given that death is the desired outcome," Nitschke says. But the solution deteriorates slower in a sterile environment, allowing those with painful conditions to "lock it away in the back of the cupboard in case things gets too bad." The extracted sample is then mixed with chemicals from the kit; a color change indicates a lethal solution.

Utopians are the most barbaric form of life known to man.

There are LOTS of ways for a determined person to kill themselves
And Plenty of ways for a “Loved One” to help them.
There is no need to damage others in the process by
involving them, one way or another

Alcohol is Lethal in sufficient doses
Cyanide can be easy made at home
Bridges and Tall Buildings are abundant
A Lake, Rope, and a Cement Block will do it

Even as simple a tool as a Plastic Bag can be Quite Effective

What these people want is for someone else to do the dirty work
Families want their Doctor to Kill, so the
Blood is not on the Loved One’s Hands

Cowards

Here is my ‘Modest Proposal’ for a reliable method of testing drugs being considered to end one’s life.

1. Buy double the amount.
2. Dose a Liberal with half of the aforementioned purchase.
3. Determine the drug efficacy by observing what happens to the Liberal.
4. It is my suggestion that you then do not take the other half, but dose another Liberal - to be sure.
5. Go to Hospice.

The benefit of this Modest Proposal is that when St. Peter asks you for your justification to enter Heaven, you can al least claim to have lowered the number of America’s enemies by two.

PS Not that this will be any incentive, but Satan will appreciate your choice in both dosage and experimental subjects.

I am certain Britain’s National Health Service will pay for your euthanasia to save money on more expensive care.

Capital punishment is just that, PUNISHMENT for a capital crime, it has absolutely NOTHING to do with euthanasia.

People who are seriously ill deserve to be given palliative care,

Does that mean you want to use the governement to force me to stay alive and suffer a miserable death?

No, I have never suggested otherwise.

Do you actually know what palliative care is?

Interesting. You do not advocate that a person may decide his own death BUT you advocate murder of others! Interesting.

Yes. Do you know the pain and misery of some cancer deaths?

My father was one of the most kindest life-loving people you could ever meet. For you to associate him with the 'culture of death' is despicable.
