Ex-McCain aide to call for gay marriage support [Steve Schmidt] [says is a God-given right]
CNN - Political Ticker ^ | 2009-04-16

Washington (CNN) - Steve Schmidt, a key architect of John McCain's presidential campaign, is making his first public return to Washington a bold one.

Schmidt will use a speech Friday to Log Cabin Republicans, a gay rights group, to urge conservative Republicans to drop their opposition to same-sex marriage, CNN has learned.

"There is a sound conservative argument to be made for same-sex marriage," Schmidt will say, according to speech excerpts obtained by CNN. "I believe conservatives, more than liberals, insist that rights come with responsibilities. No other exercise of one's liberty comes with greater responsibilities than marriage."

I agree, that is what a small government philosophy should suggest. What special rights are you speaking of, BTW?

As an aside, I wonder what people think about anti-discrimination laws. Can I refuse to hire a woman because my religious views say women should not hold leadership positions (like its says in 1 Timothy 2)? Can I refuse to hire a black person because I believe my customers are racist and hiring a black person will be bad for business? Should I be able to not hire a gay person because I think it is sinful and disgusting and do not want that influence around my employees or family.

Does it matter if I am a public or private employer?

Similarly, should I be able to tell a gay person he/she is sinful or evil, and going to hell? What about a Muslim or a Jew or Mormon or other? Where is the line between free speech and harassment? I am asking from a legal not a “good taste” standpoint.

I’m bringing a few other with whom I have debated these points, hope that is okay, I’d like your perspectives

we have to get rid of this liberal infestation i9n our party, I ma not saying that we can have no different views but one stance or platform for us in this party is traditional family, mum and dad, wife and husband, not two homos who like to do disgusting acts with each other and then pretend to play families thus hurting kids

I never ever will recognise any homo as normal nor will I recognise any two people of the same sex as married nor will I ever recognise two of the same sex as parents.

I am still young and have plenty of years in me and I will fight them every day for the rest of my life and so will my young kids

for any homos out there reading this

understand this, the majority of people in this country find you sick, you hang around wit your own kind and on the Internet with your own kind but you will never be accepted out of your homo./ liberal circle

The polls and votes have shown this even in CA. You may win in some courts but you are not accepted no matter how many times you go to the courts or tell yourselves on your freak parades .

You can call me what ever name you want but guess what. I do not care I care what my family thinks of me and no one else.
call me, get in my face(like to see that as you won’t be there for long) or have your freak parades I do not care/

You want to tell me your a homo with your stickers and flags on your cars the so be it

You are certanly entitiled to your beliefs and opinions, but I wonder how homo parents unambiguously “hurt kids” as you imply. My experiences say the opposite.

I have many neighbors who are gay with adopted kids. From what I see they are no better or worse parents than my wife and me, or our hetero neighbors. In one case two lesbians adopted two girls from a very abusive, drug addicted home. The girls seem to be doing fine, both are heterosexual, good students, polite and upstanding kids.

Would you rather they be in their old home, probably drug addicted and turning tricks like their mom? I think their current family is much better than the old one, regardless of the parents’ gender.

If big government anti-homo adoption laws were in place, these girls (and many others I know) would be much worse off

Do a search using the keywords “homosexual agenda”, read up for a few days or weeks (depending on how much time you have) and then get back to the discussion. A number of Freepers spent years digging up facts and figures, and I for one am not about to start doing it again.

The verdict is in - homosexuality is degrading, perverted, unnatural, immoral and unhealthy behavior. Homosexuals have a much higher rate of molesting children up to and including adolescants than normal people, and many if not most were molested when young.

No one is born homosexual, and many have been healed from their attraction to the same sex.

It is also a fact that homosexual “marriage” is being pushed not because many homosexuals really want to be married in any sense of the word, but in order to change (ie “destroy”) society and society’s foundation. It is stated by many of their spokesfolks, that the reason they want marriage is purely political.

If you are sincere and really want to know about this, read. If not, then you’re on the wrong forum.

I saw your post before and thought who you were so I checked your past posts and saw that you are a fanatical paul supporter and you harp on about your small Govt

here’s my experience so read this carefully about homos

I grew up in foster homes, one of the kids I was with got adopted by a couple, normal couple , two years later they divorced and the mum who he had to say with started to go with other women

social services knew what was going on but the kid got weird , he would dress in women’s clothes but knew he liked women.
He told one of the kids at the home that he would see his adopted mum with another woman all the time

years later I found out that he killed himself, yes KILLED HIMSELF
he left a message saying how he hated his mum, how he never wanted to say in that home once dad left and all he ever wanted what we all wanted in the home was to be with a mum and dad

so don’t give me any crap about how small Govt should keep out of their lives of homos don’t hurt others

Now I will read the rest of your post

So what other “unnatural” and “unhealthy” acts do you want government to ban” Smoking? drinking alcohol? Being fat? How about gun ownership? Where does the nanny state intrusion stop?

I am for small government, even when people do things I do not agree with

just read your post all the way and you can have your perverted sick friends and neighbors and I’ll have my view but those kids need to get the hell out of there right now.

you do not know what goes on behind closed doors, you don’t know how these kids will turn out neither do your homo friends as they are young right??????????????

Hey another thing
homos like your friends are 5% of this population and yet they account of over 605 of serial killers

homos do not live as long

as for kids then you can look this up as I do not have time but I have seen it and read about it.
homos account for the majority of child molesters.

yes they do and I know it goes against your view but when a man touches a boy he is a homo and a child molester
the priests who touched those boys were homos

course liberals hate to account of those kind of stats.

kid walks into dad and he’s in bed with another dad and you think that is normal

yea right

Once again you confuse ancestry with behavior.

Black, female, etc, are *NOT* behaviors, and I strongly *RESENT* you confusing ancestry with behavior.

As for hiring, private businesses should be allowed to hire whomsoever they want.

Get over it.

The NH “Human Rights Commission” is gloating over a $400,000 fine imposed on a man, because he did not offer overtime to one of his woman employees. Never mind that he only picked the strongest of his men for the overtime job of unloading heavy equipment after hours.

Which is why the idea of a 3rd party shouldn't be such a third rail here. If the GOP is sooo lost that those in charge of getting “our” candidate elected, don't believe the basic tenets the party is built on, it is time to leave and start over.

A small sampling of MGL’s comments during his short (so far) tenure on FR:

“I of course welcome small government, but much of social conservatism advocates the nanny state: the drug war and prohibiting other victimless crimes, not letting consenting gay adults enter a marital contract. I’m sure there are more examples but you get my point...”

“I think government should stick to the bare minimum. Telling consenting adults what kinds of marriage contracts they may enter should not be one of them. It is always tempting to say government should get involved in (...whatever one’s pet peeve is), but unless it involves force or fraud or clear present harm to others, butt out.

Even if government was GOOD at that kind of thing I’d object on principle”

“Let’s take them one by one:

group marriage: as long as it is
a reasonable contract by consenting adults, not my problem, not the state’s role to either encourage nor prohibit

, adult brother & sister “marriages,”: there are good biological reasons to prevent this (or at least procreation). If a brother and sister want to enter into a contract of shared property, rights and obligations, that is their issue.

porn shops next to high schools: I see a place for reasonable (minimal) zoning laws, note sure about this case, especially if porn shops are for 18+ (I do believe in age of consent restrictions -no booze buying for six year olds)

unchecked gambling-on-demand: like state lotteries? casinos? We already have that. It is up to individuals to restrain themselves.

the overwhelming percentage of users of guns, alcohol, other recreational drugs, gambling, porn, etc., are peaceful and otherwise law abiding. Outlawing those activities on the grounds of a few bad actors is even less justified than outlawing guns because some people shoot people unjustly, fail to secure them, etc.

Lots of things cause problems: sugar, trans fats, tobacco, inter-racial or inter-religious marriage, fast cars. I just do not think it serves us well for a nanny state to micro-manage our lives. Other Freepers believe otherwise, but I question the consistency of their small government claims”

This one is cute:

“Substitute “”Jesus” and Jehovah” for “Mohammad” and “Allah” and you’d feel right at home in Iran, where the theocracy protects people, from oogie things like porn, gambling and gays. You may have hard there are no gays there. You’d fit right in

Too many Republicans are just fine with authoritarian theocracy as long as it happens to reflect their particular reading of their particular holy book

I prefer limited government as the ultimate safeguard against tyrrany”

And this one, comparing anyone who is opposed to the normalization of homosexuality to Nazis and Mullahs:

“fights over how consenting adults choose to live, how they define a family or what otherwise reasonable contracts they enter into, takes “conservatives” into the realm of big government nanny state-ism. It is a stupid distraction from what conservatives ought to be really focusing on”

“If you and you church members do not want to perform or recognize gay marriage go for it. Teach your kids it is a sin. Mke gay jokes, hand ouy anti-gay pamplets

Let me ask you this: Nazis, bin Laden, the Iranian mullahs, they all love and embrace gays right? Uh no, gays are easy scapegoats for passing all kinds of oppressive laws and just like all oppressive laws, come back to bite us.
Tyranny loves scapegoats that it can demonize and use to justify oppresion (”thank goodness they’re protecting us from *those* people”)

Our so-called small government major party is wasting so many resources on this boondoggle; meanwhile our economy is being socialized, so many real problems go unsolved because they have no credibility, no principles

I wish you people were smarter than that”

For someone who is touting small government you are actually advocating forcing people to accept the normalization of harmful deviant sexual behavior against their will. The majority of the American people do NOT want homosexual marriage, and all that goes along with it. Instead, it is being forced on the country via politicians, judges and homosexual activists.

I call this tyranny, not small government. Your “small government” fallacy is a product of small minds and small understanding. You need education, you should climb off the idiot soap box. Your every comment reveals your complete ignorance and primitive cognitive thinking skills. And, very possibly, an intoxicated state that prevents clear thinking.
