Governor Says Texas Can Leave Union If It Wants (with audio)
Houston Chronicle ^ | April 15, 2009

"Texas is a unique place. When we came into the union in 1845, one of the issues was that we would be able to leave if we decided to do that," Perry said. "My hope is that America and Washington in particular pays attention. We've got a great union. There's absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, who knows what may come of that."

I seem to recall that Texas already left the Union and it did not work out all that well.

I saw some stats a while back that if Texas stood alone, we would be the fifth or sixth largest economy in the world (not counting what we would do w/ out DC’s regulations).

Wish the Gov. well in his effort. About 49 other states need to start working on the same idea.

This would really be something. And where else but Texas?

That would not surprise me at all. At one time California was the sixth largest economy in the world...but we all know what happened there.

As an aside, I see the trolls are showing up already.

I’ve often thought, if the South seceded again, the biggest impact wouldn’t be economic.

It would be on the military....as in: I don’t think the North could raise an army without southerners to draw on.

(Of course, we’d have to turn West Point into South Point!).

As things have gone in recent decades, a breakup might be best in the long run, or even a necessity. If the American, kook left wants to remake America, let them build their paradises in the states where they have a significant majority. And let more conservative Americans live in states that reflect their values.

And since the states formed the union, and not the other way around, it is time the 10th amendment were brought to the forefront and used to try and stop some of the ever mushrooming federal intrusion into the lives of US citizens. Respecting the 10th amendment might be the way to avoid move toward a breakup.

Governor Says Texas Can Leave Union If It Wants

If Texas did leave the union, we would at least have one ally we could trust on our southern border.

Texas is in great economic condition however, it by no means would be one of the top four or five economies by GDP in the world.

The problem for Texas is they'd have no allies they could trust on any of their borders.

If they actually did, I would move to the hill country within a week.

I would miss the salt water and all the green, but that’s about it.
