I saw some stats a while back that if Texas stood alone, we would be the fifth or sixth largest economy in the world (not counting what we would do w/ out DC’s regulations).

That would not surprise me at all. At one time California
was the sixth largest economy in the world...but we all know what happened there.

I don't think it's that high. Back in 1980, the Republic of Texas would have been the 9th richest nation. Although Texas is still a wealthy “nation,” there have been a lot of gains in countries like India, China, Brazil, etc.
