Tea Party Total Head Count Thread (Post Your Attendance Numbers Here)
Wednesday, April 15, 2009 | Kristinn

Posted on 04/15/2009 3:08:47 PM PDT by kristinn

I'm hoping to be able to ascertain an overall national figure of attendance at the tea parties today by asking Freepers to post their crowd estimates on this thread.

I'm also asking that the thread be kept to just the numbers, no photos, etc., but if you want to link back to photos in your crowd estimate that's fine.

Please give the location and number of participants.

I'll go first:

Melbourne, FL - 1000.

The organizers of the Tanglewood Park event in Bryan estimate 500: http://bcsteaparty.wordpress.com/

The organizers of the Veterans’ Park event in College Station estimate 800-1000 is what I’m told. I was a speaker, and I estimated, from the podium, about 1000.

Texas A&M wasn’t a rally so much as place on the commons where students could come and go. Because there was a constant stream in and out of the event, I’m not sure if they have an estimate or not.

I’ll separate the two, and add the extra bodies. Thanks for the research.

Please update Little Rock to 2500-2700, per Arkansas State Police. I can attest to what I have heard / read.

Will anyone be totaling these numbers in an easy-to-find location?

Hi Hoffer Rand!

Actually, we did have about 200 at the one in downtown Ogden! There could’ve been more. I forgot to sign in, but I stayed for about an hour. I had to pick up 2 of my little grandkids from their bus; but I wanted so much to bring them back to the tea party! Trouble is, it was quite rainy and chilly and one of them had been coughing; so I thought maybe I should just bring them home.

However, I sure enjoyed the hour I was there! We got a lot of cars honking and waving at us down Washington Blvd.! Some people had brought some extra signs, so I got to hold one for awhile; and that was fun! (I’d never been to a protest before)A lot of young high school-age people were there. We do have Weber State University near-by, so it’s possible a lot of young people came from there.

We also had a number of 50-60ish people there, as well a quite a handful of senior citizens! Bless their hearts, because like I said, it was pretty chilly and rainy off and on through the day! Ogden’s Republican mayor even came out to join them for a short time. He seems to be always in trouble with some people! (usually the Dems. in his council!) He’s a good egg anyway; and a pretty good sport!

Someone handed him a “bill” reminding him of some taxes or fees he must’ve been responsible for, but he didn’t seem to take offense at all. Like I said, he was a good sport in spite the scolding, and even spoke to the crowd for a little bit! There was at least one other tea-party that took place up in Brigham City too. Some of these smaller ones weren’t on the main Tea Party websites, because I didn’t hear about the one in Ogden, until my Mom said she saw it in the paper.

I don’t know if it was more of a last-min. event or what! I think we may have had more people come, if more people had known about it a little sooner, or if they were afraid it was called off for weather, or if it was of it being held on a week-day, I don’t know!

Reporting for Denton, Texas: rally from 6pm to 9pm, I’m estimating 500 folks. It was hard to really tell because we were on a sloped area and people were rotating in and out as they got off work and left for other engagements.

Also, in Argyle, Texas: rally from 3pm to 5pm, about 40 folks showed up. This is from a friend who attended the rally.

Ogden, UT got about 200 according to the local newspaper, “Ogden Standard Examiner”! It could’ve got a larger one than that; but I don’t know when that headcount was taken. The whole Tea Party event was supposed to only last for 2 hours, but I was only able to stay for the first hour.

There was supposed to be one in Brigham City, UT, also according to list of “head count” on the thread, there was one in Logan, UT also! I didn’t know Logan was going to have one! There was supposed to be one in Davis County, UT, but the organizer decided against it.

Vacaville reported “several hundred”, Pleasanton news said at 2pm around 1,000 but were expecting at least another 1,000. As for Fairfield, I searched for their local newspaper but you have to register to read so I passed on that one.

Correction: The more official count is closer to 500. Media has it at 100 so 500 is probably more correct. 8^D

Colorado Springs should have the numbers as 1500, 2000, and 2500. The paper reported 1500.
