Gov. Perry Backs Resolution Affirming Texas’ Sovereignty Under 10th Amendment
Office of the Governor Rick Perry ^

Posted on 04/14/2009 5:45:04 AM PDT by rocket002

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today joined state Rep. Brandon Creighton and sponsors of House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 50 in support of states’ rights under the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

“I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state,” Gov. Perry said. “That is why I am here today to express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm the states’ rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations, and ultimately strengthen our Union.”

A number of recent federal proposals are not within the scope of the federal government’s constitutionally designated powers and impede the states’ right to govern themselves. HCR 50 affirms that Texas claims sovereignty under the 10th Amendment over all powers not otherwise granted to the federal government.

It also designates that all compulsory federal legislation that requires states to comply under threat of civil or criminal penalties, or that requires states to pass legislation or lose federal funding, be prohibited or repealed.

HCR 50 is authored by Representatives Brandon Creighton, Leo Berman, Bryan Hughes, Dan Gattis and Ryan Guillen.

If things go well, 6 or more OTHER states will join the Republic of Texas in this FOBO movement.

Yeah that’s true. But you do realize that Paul was used by the left to split the conservative vote right? There are certain political realities at this time & one of them is Paul isn’t going to get elected president

#8. I agree, Perry is a fraud. He is worried about losing the next election to Kay Bailey Hutchison. His policies have consistently flown in the face of everything sovereign he now hypocritically claims to honor. I hate politicians!

RINO Rick...Slick Rick...man, there's a lot we can hang on this jerk.

I guess the only good thing about him is that because he has this rep, he now feels like he has to run Right to keep his job.

So keep the pressure up on him. Dear Rick, if you don't build the wall, lower taxes, tell the freaks in DC to F-off...we'll fire you.

That should be the battle cry in Texas. And all over the country. It's either this or we end up living in Brazil with Nukes...

Out of the frying pan, into the fire...

I guess with a nice Socialite like Kay, the good thing is that she would find the whole Mexican invasion thing just a bit too distasteful, and might actually do a little about it...but probably not. All those poor little bambinos being born at Dallas Parkland, she'd start feeling sorry for them.

"Here, darlings, I'll confiscate some cash from the Gringos and give it to you...feast away".

Well anyway, like I said in prior post...at least Slick Rick is running a-skeered. Maybe he can be buffaloed into doing something useful.

Then we throw his butt under the bus...

All of this started at the loss of the war of Northern aggression. Now we reap the harvest!

Thanks for your thoughts!

We are about to get the argument about the Texas 1948 treaty that brought it into the Union. I think the actions of 1865, when Texas, a conquered land, was annexed by the federal government though force of arms, kind of take precedence over a treaty signed in 1848.

Texas has no special rights rights under the 1848 treaty any longer, but of the special rights Texaphiles like to point out, I think splitting is foolish.

Texas should secede as a whole, a right also “settled” in 1865. It is getting to the point that reforming the Union by splitting Texas into 6 states will do little. At least two of those new states will be so liberal as to make California look positively Red. Secession will not be opposed by this current generation, especially the bluebies. Secession can only be settle if a nation is willing to take up arms to keep it settled.

“Rick Perry is a grandstanding fraud.”

ALL politicians are grandstanding frauds. The point is that, fraud or not, he is responding to the mood of the people. The mood of Texas is increasingly resentful of federal tyranny.

Obama et.al. are swiftly moving to nullify the constitution and bill of rights. Texans generally regard this as unacceptable. (How’s that for understatement of the obvious? :-) )

****** “Rick Perry is a grandstanding fraud” ******

Yes he is, just have to remember what Reagan used to say (paraphrasing) “It’s amazing what we can accomplish if we don’t worry about who gets the credit”

It’s just a resolution. It doesn’t do anything legally. Hopefully it gets people in the mindset to do something stronger, but all it is is just a statement. Nobody’s hanging their political career out the window by being for it.

You can always tell when Gov. Goodhair is running for re-election. He starts making noises that make him sound conservative. Problem is, immediately after the election, he'll be lobbying for amnesty for illegal aliens.
