FBI to question US crew in criminal piracy probe

WASHINGTON — FBI agents planned to interview the crew of a U.S. cargo ship Saturday as the bureau began building a criminal case against Somali pirates who attacked the ship and took the captain hostage.

The Maersk Alabama arrived safely in Yemen on Saturday, three days after Somali pirates stormed the ship, failed to hijack it, and fled in a lifeboat with the captain.

"The FBI has informed us that this ship is a crime scene," John Rhinehart, president of Maersk Shipping Line said Saturday, explaining why crew members cannot immediately leave the ship.

And then after the military got through... (as I said), they would tell the FBI that they could “have at it”... and do whatever they want with those guys...

There ya go...

“Arrest me you jerk! See what the press thinks when you arrest victims and give money and food and protection to PIRATES!”

You are closest to the true motivation for these "interviews".

The FBI are plugging leaks by threatening the papers/licenses of these merchant seamen/engineers/radio officers.

They will be told what to say if they ever want to sail again, and I'll bet they will be threatened with prosecution for insubordination and illegal use of force.

I just heard on radio news that the boat is not out of gas, and is now within 20 miles of shore.

Did the crew have something to do with this?

Not until leftist pirate-protecting advocates, lawyers, prosecutors, judges and global activists become involved (sarcasm).

Watch the FBI under B. Hussein arrest the crew for upsetting the pirates and getting them off the ship.

The pirates are not criminals. Piracy is terrorism by sea. They need to be shot on sight at sea or hung as soon as ANY nation’s authorities arrest them and confirm their activities.

What is this criminal probe. Go in and take them out as they should be taken out and eliminated. Or would you have done the same thing to the Nazi and Communist? Oh the Supreme court has ruled that to be a Communist or Nazi is not unlawful, total CRAP.

The end result will be some member of the crew will be convicted of lying to the FBI because some other member of the crew didn’t remember it the same way and the pirates get their $2 mil.

Even if this was all military, the brass would have those servicement debriefed, if they were involved in any kind of action like this. It’s not something out of the ordinary. It’s to be expected.

Excuse me but we already know the WHY of it. There is a thriving piracy operation in the failed-state of Somalia. We also know HOW to stop it, if we are interested. There are a range of options: convoy, arming the ships, security guards, etc. None of them involve "law enforcement."

You said — Excuse me but we already know the WHY of it.

Yep, the “why of it” has been several years of many other countries paying ransoms and not doing a thing about it. You can thank all those other countries for this problem. The US had nothing to do with it, that’s for sure.

And then you said — We also know HOW to stop it, if we are interested. There are a range of options: convoy, arming the ships, security guards, etc.

Yep again — but *not* with the US “bailing out” those other countries who continued “supporting” the pirates. Nope. I see no reason at all for the US to be paying for this kind of operation. The US had nothing to do with paying ransoms and encouraging these pirates over the years. Make those other countries take care of their own problems.

The Obama administration has *enough bailout money* on the table, without “bailing out” these other countries...

Must we repeat every mistake made by Bill Clinton? He thought terrorism was a law enforcement issue, sending Janet Reno’s henchmen over to Yemen to search for DNA evidence for the USS Cole bombing (when everyone knew who was responsible).

Probably planning to prosecute the crew for taking the ship back.

That is in fact pretty close to what Bush's Texas baseball buddy Johnny Sutton did to border agents Compean and Ramos.

0bama wants the FBI to see if anyone in the crew dissed Mohammed, or otherwise provoked the poor pirates.

I recently read an article claiming that Eric Holder and the DOJ were here to protect us! What a fricking joke!

remember all the liberals whining about our response for terrorist in a military fashion. they all said we should have treated it as a "criminal" case.

Now we have the FBI.

Just peachy. I don't know if these pirates are going to hole up in a wooden structure with a bunch of kids or maybe have their wives hold babies on the front porch so they can kill/burn/shoot them.

The FBI just might have it's hands full with guys that are willing to shoot back and kill them.

Of course I may be wrong and they are the premiere law enforcement agency in the world. So maybe they only need the Navy for transportation. I'm just feeling all warm and fuzzy now. We will be attacked on our soil, there will be a criminal investigation and the country will once again have to pick up the mess of a democrat administration.

began building a criminal case against Somali pirates

ROFLOL!

Sorry, but it's a freaking joke! How did that work out with Osama bin Laden?! Didn't Clinton 'build a case' against him too?!
