THOSE OLD Republican hot buttons are growing cold. For proof, check out a recent interview with Mitt Romney, a former presidential candidate and ex-governor of Massachusetts.
According to TheHill.com, a congressional newspaper that publishes when Congress is in session, "Romney believes that one way to attract more minorities to the GOP is to pass immigration reform before the next election, saying the issue becomes demagogued by both parties on the campaign trail." The article also quotes Romney as saying, "We have a natural affinity with Hispanic-American voters, Asian-American voters."
This could be extreme political repositioning, even for Romney.
. . . . .
How Romney gets beyond the flip-flop-flips of his multiple-choice positions on immigration and other issues is a mystery only he can solve.

Not me. I won’t support any GOP candidate who votes for or supports amnesty. Period. They just don’t get it.
This is THE issue that was the last straw and made me change my party affiliation to independent. And I’ve supported or voted for every GOP presidential and nearly all local candidates since I was a kid campaigning for Goldwater back in Chicago.

This is an issue that needs to be dealt with. We are facing a demographic crisis. To speak frankly, the liberals have almost succeeded in importing enough 'minority' ethnic groups that they have skilfully exploited into ethnic victim-hood constituencies to permanently build a left-wing majority. We all know Bush failed to close the border and completely reorganize immigration when national security demanded it and a Republican congress could have delivered it. There will come a point at which conservatives either have to resign themselves to permanent minority status, or make a democrat-style bargain with Hispanics that likely won't work and will result in the same thing. The question remains whether the numbers exist for one last push at true America-first conservatism, whereby we enforce the laws and gain control of our immigration system, or whether we have already crossed the Rubicon. If we are already at the point where we have lost too many people who consider themselves American first, despite their particular ethnic background, then it is likely permanent majority status for us and a long sad decline for our Republic. We cannot survive as a collection of warring tribes suckling on the tit of the federal treasury.

People forget, Romney has a lot of relatives in Mexico... grandfather and father were born and raised in Mexico

From this article...
“As governor of a blue state, he once said he favored a sensible path to citizenship.”

This is misleading. Everyone here on free republic also supports immigration reform. Romney had an immigration reform plan last election that could have been written by free republic. There is nothing in this story to suggest he has changed that plan.

Is K-Lo still drooling over this guy? Plenty of droolers right here at F.R.

How your supporting millions of illegals is all about freedom. How your one party control shows great diversity in your nation.100 per centers* like you may be an important reason we're going to have yet another raft of New Deal entitlement legislation passed this year, as well as the amnesty we were all hoping to forestall.
* That is, if I don't get 100% of what I want, I'm staying home or voting for the other guy.

Mitt Romney is indirectly helping to take himself out of the serious running for ‘12 GOP POTUS! Many conservatives will make sure that “everything leftist” is seriously not forgotten, prior to the next general elections in ‘10, ‘12, and beyond! There are plenty of very angry and very upset conservatives and other non-leftists, who are very concerned about the direction that the entire U.S. is presently heading on all of the issues.

Romney disappoints again! I want the GOP to have his money, but he has morphed into McCain and has no conservative principles.

If Slick morphed into Juan, that’d actually be an improvement. He hasn’t even reached the level of primordial ooze.
