Poplawski's friends at the scene described him as a young man who thought the Obama administration would ban guns.
One friend, Edward Perkovic, said Poplawski feared "the Obama gun ban that's on the way" and "didn't like our rights being infringed upon."
Another longtime friend, Aaron Vire, said he feared that President Obama was going to take away his rights, though he said he "wasn't violently against Obama."

I hear the guy ranted about Zionists.
Maybe we can lock up the loonie left them.
The guy is described as a dishonorabley discharged Marine. Wonder what his IVAW membership number was?
Plus they were answering a domestic violence call.
This guy was a loser, not a militia.
Crappy reporting. Hysterical “assault weapon” jive. They were responding to a domestic disturbance. Who called it in, what was reported as a crime?
Like I said, crappy reporting.
We do have to be careful that they don’t infringe our right in other ways... ammo...types of guns...
I’m waiting for the suit that takes Heller to the next step, that full auto is our right.
Per the Pittsburgh media (heard it several places). He lived, rent free, with his grandparents. It was his mom who called 911, after Poplawski returned home, after a night of drinking, and his dog urinated in the house. The mother answered the door, not knowing (at least that is what is being reported) that her son was coming up behind her in a bullet proof vest w/an AK47 (yes, that has been substaniated).
Officer Sciullo, first officer thru the door, was shot in the head, his backup Officer Mayhle was also shot in the head at the door...the mother screamed ‘what have you done.’ Poplawski, either then or at some subsequent point pumped 4 more bullets into the dying Officer Sciullo. Mayhle was able to get off some kind of transmission and an ‘just off’ duty, who lived in the neighborhood, Officer Kelly reponded. He was shot multiple times and died at a hospital.
Poplawski was kicked out of a private, Catholic HS; dismissed from Marine Corp training camp; had at least two Protection from Abuse citations filed against him; had numerous run ins with the law; and police had been at the Fairfield Drive home many times before.
In the ensuing four hour seige, he wounded one other officer, and an officer was injured when a fence he was scaling collapsed.
Sciullo was engaged; Mayhler married with a 6 and 3 year old; Kelly, married with a 22, 16 and 11 years old daughters.
He is not being held up here (Pittsburgh) as anything other than what he is. A monster. I have heard so from so many different sources/people the ‘great restraint’ the arresting officers showed...he received two bullet wounds to the leg in the fire fight (after the initial ambush). But he was taken in alive. This was after the arresting officers saw their fellow fallen cops in the house.
The gun grabbing/political angle comes from three chatty friends, two of which made bee lines for cameras yesterday during the stand off.
PA has the death penalty; and he will no doubt receive it.
Thanks. I’ve seen a few of those details since the Drudge story came out, but not all of them.
Thankfully, it looks as if the silly angle Drudge took on it, taken from the stories he linked, has pretty much vanished off the radar screen.
