Redoubt blasts again
Ash possible from Ninilchik South
The rest of the story
2009-04-04 10:36:19
Currently a plume of mostly water vapor, gas, and possibly a small amount of ash is rising above Redoubt to about 15,000 feet.
Minor ashfall resulting from the 06:00 AKDT explosive event was reported in Homer, Anchor Point, Seldovia, and on the west side of Cook Inlet about 30 miles south of the volcano. At this time, it appears ash fall has mostly ceased in these areas.
The Mt. Redoubt alert level remains WARNING and aviation color code remains RED.
AVO will be attempting to overfly the volcano later today.
Infrared satellite image captured by AVHRR (Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer) at 14:45 UTC (06:45 am ADT). The darker area is the ash cloud emitted from Redoubt during the explosive event that began at approximately 5:55 am, April 4, 2009 (ADT). Picture Date: April 04, 2009 14:45:00 UTC. Sounds like only a little ash, and staying way south. Ninilchik is near the bottom of the map. So far I haven’t heard of any plane groundings. That is the killer for Alaska: not being able to fly.
