WASHINGTON (AP) Everyone from President Barack Obama on down to fans has criticized how college football determines its top team. Now senators are getting off the sidelines to examine antitrust issues involving the Bowl Champion Series.
The current system "leaves nearly half of all the teams in college football at a competitive disadvantage when it comes to qualifying for the millions of dollars paid out every year," the Senate Judiciary's subcommittee on antitrust, competition policy and consumer rights said in a statement Wednesday announcing the hearings.

Orin Hatch is one of them. He is upset that Utah didn’t make it in. I guess he is making a Federal case out of it.
Considering the damage Congress is doing to the country, I hope they spend the next year dealing with a college football playoff.
____________
Good point but I still think they are out of control. what’s next? How much food a family should be allowed to spend on food each week? Government control over grocery stores?
This kind of thing could be a prelude to government mandating that college athletes be permitted to unionize and have agents.
And really, everyone knows that whatever college team is declared number one, fans of other teams will claim that their team is superior. Controversy isn't necessarily bad for the sports world.
If life was fair Elvis would be alive and all the
imitators would be dead. Having said that
Ole Miss beat Fl so they should be #1.
They are right but they are also wrong...
Right: The BCS probably does act in a method that breaks anti-trust laws. Were Utah in a BCS conference (even the PAC10 arguably as weak/strong as the MWC) they would have been higher ranked and in the championship game.
Wrong: There are already anti-trust laws, the place to remedy this is in the courts or court appointed arbitration. We dont need new laws to do this..
No politicians in sports. Just Say NO.
Government needs to stop interfering with things that have nothing to do with governing the nation ...
I’m still disgusted with Congress when they investigated steroid use in baseball ... WTF is my tax payer money doing paying for that stupid crap ...
LOL! And the only reason the CA senators aren’t involved is cuz they’re girls! ;-)
Honestly, I’m not thrilled with the BCS, but doesn’t congress have better things to do?
Honestly, I think Texas has a very legitimate gripe — but it isn’t for the gubmint to solve.
Don’t forget, Notre Dame, Alabama and USC have too many NC trophies. We must have them redistributed to Perdue, Tulane and Cal State Fullerton.
So’s who the Senator from Texas or Utah other than Orin Hatch that you’re upset about?
Sore losers....
Nice, if you dont mind im going to pirate that :)
Arrrgh matey...pirate away :)
