So if I’m stupid and reckless, does this mean I can get a cool job reading and writing? Where do I sign up? This sounds great! We should all do it.

That means, on average, each household carries about $11,000 on credit cards alone, never mind mortgages and other ongoing financial commitments.

I don't know anybody with that much credit card debt.

Is there anybody here who has that much? I have zero.

I first cast about for ways to bring home the bacon that didn't involve hard work.

I've found one of his problems.

Whiny deadbeat. The fruit of his irresponsibility should haunt him until his death.

The plastic camp shoved a bill through the 2005 Congress, gifting the credit card companies by screwing the consumer. George Bush, no doubt, took enormous delight in inking this class war declaration.

Bush and Joe Biden. It's too bad neither one of those idiots tried to lower bankruptcies with pro growth economic policies.

That this pinhead ended up in bankruptcy is no surprise.

The bankruptcy ‘reform’ was designed to bail out credit card lenders at the expense of real estate lenders. We can see how that worked out.

I thought he did an excellent job of telling his story and how he is now living within his means. Sounds like this guy could be a potential conservative.

“In 2008, bankruptcy filings far eclipsed those of 2007.”
* * *

I have no doubt it will skyrocket again in 2009.

But, once bankruptcy is granted, should one work hard, live frugally and, as penance for sins against capital, endure years of want, one re-emerges a creditworthy phoenix. That's because capitalism requires that we prodigal sons and daughters return to its fold.

This author is a fool. If you save money for purchases and pay cash, a couple of valuable things happen; 1. You get bargains, so you have more money to spend on the next item you buy. 2. You don't have the cost of interest, so you have more money to spend on the next item.

You accomplish more and can get better quality if you are not at the mercy of the finance company.

And that's exactly what it was: a declaration of class warfare, by the rich.

The Republican Congress never had time to pass a balanced budget amendment, or term limits, or Social Security reform, or to abolish the Department of Education, or the Department of Energy, or speaking of energy to come up with an energy policy other than sending more and more money to Saudi Arabia.

The Republicans never had time to do any of the things that I wanted them to do, the things they promised to do that made me vote for them. But that had plenty of time to pass that pile of excrement (the bankruptcy law), and plenty of time to pass every one-sided, crappy free trade treaty they could come up with. Oh, and lots of pork, too.

Taking stock of my skill set, it occurred to me that I was passably good at least three things, namely: reading, writing and holding forth. San Francisco being our residence at the time...

I'm beginning to see the source of the problem. The author is a whiny urban lib who doesn't want to get his hands dirty. So he's going to be a tour guide? Uh...

I conducted not one tour during the nine-week course of this strike. Once the matter had been settled, the concierges I had so fawningly cultivated chose to do business with other tour firms who'd shown no compunction about crossing picket lines.

Send yer bill to the unions, bud. They'll look out for you. Guess what? Class solidarity with the workers don't pay the rent.

So an unsuccessful would-be businessman capitalizes his firm at credit-card rates, prefers a political statement to doing business, and goes under when he runs out of credit. And it's Bush's fault. Uh, yeah...

Well, we know which business is next in line to file Chapter 11.
