Bristol Palin breaks up with fiance Levi Johnston
Herald Sun ^ | 12 March 2009

SARAH Palin's teenage Bristol has broken off her engagement to Levi Johnston two months after the birth of their child.

The 18-year-old daughter of the Alaskan Governor told the Associated Press (AP) she was "devastated" by the split.

"Unfortunately, my family has seen many people say and do many things to 'cash in' on the Palin name," she said in a statement.

"Sometimes that greed clouds good judgment and the truth."

Mr Johnston, 19, told AP the pair had mutually decided to end their relationship.

Bristol Palin's pregnancy was announced last summer days after her mother was named John McCain's running mate on the Republican presidential ticket.

re: Telling girls that it’s OK to raise a baby as an unwed single mother is one of the worst aspects of the breakdown of our culture.)))

Yes, but keep in mind that the death of the unborn is the default alternative, in this culture. it'd be easier to bring moral pressure to bear if that was not the usual recourse. Ann Coulter wrote a long rebuke of single motherhood, but she didn't take that into account, or not much. That adoption is the most reasonable and unselfish of the choices doesn't get much shrift anymore.

Remember how "aunts" and "cousins" would disappear and come home with a new baby? Everyone knew the score...

The reality is that, while there are exceptions, children are better off even with abusive fathers than without them.

What??? Where do I start... My father beat the hell outta me, my mom and my sibs. We left him. Had we stayed, someone would have died, perhaps many. But as long as you think we would have been better off with an abusive father than none at all...

Are you for real? Are you serious? Wow.

There have been a number of published studies on the topic over recent years as the social wreckage of Cultural Marxism becomes more apparent. I would do the research and give you the citations, but my suspicion is that you'll play "not good enough" with whatever I'd post, so I'm not going to bother.

Believe what you want.

Exactly. Young women need to keep their legs crossed. I feel badly for them but they brought it on themselves.

And young men? They bear no responsibility???? (oh, hell, why not?)?????????!!!!!!!!!!

The kid still has a father.

Even if they meet and marry other people, the baby still has two parents who hopefully will be mature enough to maintain a respectful relationship with each other and a loving and involved one with their offspring.

What????

This girl is not poor and on welfare. She and the baby will be fine.

Give the baby up becasue she is single?

For heavens sakes...

Check out the other thread on this 400+

If she was broke, one thing...This baby will be fine and loved.

Give a baby up because of having no father in the marriage sense? No, no, no.

These responses show exactly why so many young women choose to have abortions.

This is a great example of why 18 and 19 year olds shouldn't have children out of wedlock. They are not mature enough to deal with the pressure, especially the MSM in a presidential race. Poor kids. All of them. Prayers to the Palin family and especially Sarah and her husband. ‘The Lord will provide...”

The other thread.

I give the girl credit, she did what was right. What would have been wrong was a bad marriage.

Having a bay that young is tough, having two babies....pure hell. A teenage husband would may have been, well, having two babies.

Just my opinion.

Night folks.

Every liberal I know has used the Bristol Palin pregnancy to “prove” that teenage abstinence is “unrealistic,” as Bristol herself said. All it convinced me to do was discourage serious dating by our teenagers.

I think that the ready availability of information about abortion via the Internet will actually turn people away from it in a way that wasn’t possible 20-30 years ago, when it was easier to push people into abortion by withholding information about the consequences. (I’ve found it ironic that the same people who celebrate “choice” do everything they can to make that choice an uninformed one.)

I’m certainly relieved that the baby is alive & healthy, but every shotgun wedding & single motherhood in my family hasn’t turned out well.

I wonder if Laura Ingraham has ever responded to Ann Coulter’s arguments...

And this is ‘news’ because?

I guess Algore, Jr.’s drug bust wasn’t news when his father was Vice-President but the Alaska governor’s daughter is?!

I HATE THE MEDIA!

No bias my butt!

It’s pretty messed up, but the girl (as always) really gets the short end of the stick. I bet her ex will basically be AWOL for the rest of the kid’s life, and his child support payments are probably <=$200/mo (try and raise your kid on THAT!), since he’s probably marginally employed.
In all fairness to Levi, the reports I'm hearing say that he's trying to do right by his child and the Palin family are snubbing him, refusing him visitation and referring to his family as "white trash".

I hope that all the available attention from the extended Palin clan helps that poor baby come out of this emotionally healthy. Having an 18 year-old unwed single mother is likely to mess that baby up long-term.
Single parenthood only matters when there is no extended family to provide love, affection and role models. The Palins seem like a tightly knit family with a large support system.

Single parenthood in a family and single parenthood in a housing project and completely different things.

I'm sure the Palin haters must be loving this!

Actually, I'm glad that they weren't forced to get married. If they weren't right for each other, they didn't need to be together. She'll be well supported, emotionally, by her family. She won't be out there alone.

You haven’t a clue what you’re talking about.

Conservatives are for people. We understand that people make mistakes in life, and we’d rejoice that she was keeping the baby.

Consequences are different for different people. If a rich person wants to lie around by the pool and be dissolute, no harm no foul. They have the means to support themselves.

Poor people don't, so we think less of dissolute poor people because they are a drain on society and they throw their own lives away.

Likewise the consequences of sex are different for each sex. A women ends up with a baby to support, a man ends up with nothing. That's life, it's nature and it's a double standard. It's also reality.

There's two different types of "conservatives". Ideological conservatives and what I call "Conservatarians". Ideological conservatives actually believe in something and have a coherent set of beliefs(e.g., that the soul begins life at conception, the soul provides free will if people use their free will to abuse others they must be punished etc...).

Conservatarians treat politics like a sports team. They root for the "conservatives". Anything conservatives do is justified anything democrats do is proof of their inherent evil, rather than misguided ideology.

TomServo has a point, there are plenty of Conservatarians on FR that will defend or equivocate actions by supposed "conservatives" even if those actions are completely contrary to conservative principles.
