508 Chicago School Students Shot In 16 Months CBS News Interactive: Guns In America CHICAGO (CBS) ―
Twenty-five Chicago Public School students have been murdered this year. As shocking as that number is, there is another figure that's very disturbing as well: the number of students who have been shot in a 16-month period is enough to fill an elementary school - 508 students, according to school officials. CBS station WBBM-TV in Chicago's Chief Correspondent Jay Levine asks why, and what is being done to stop it.
Think about it. By this time tomorrow, odds are at least one Chicago Public School student will have been shot. By this time next week, there'll be seven. It's a staggering, frightening, shameful statistic that judging from the reaction we got, those who could do something aren't anxious to talk about.
"No one really wants to address this but we need to call for a state of emergency," said Pastor Roosevelt Watkins.
Chicago Public School students are relatively safe until they leave school, but after that, the closer to home, stats show, the more dangerous it is.

I’m not buying it either. Somebody is playing with the numbers.
(Flu shots)
or are these people actually enrolled in the schoot system?
Chicago must not have any gun laws or bans, metal detectors, or gun control measures for public school minors. Maybe they’re all 18.
Time to pull out of Chicago.
It’s a quagmire!
Bad, biased writing. The story goes on to admit that most of the students aren't being shot at school. Also, the "enough to fill an elementary school" line is intended to create an image of elementary school children, when the victims were likely older. Note the part I highlighted. The message right now is that you can commit murder and walk. Until that changes, people will commit more murders.
508 times $10,000 per pupil.
That's $5,080,000 they are losing in federal school funding!
lol.
how are those gun-free zones working out?
But it's all whitey's fault in their minds.
Excellent point.
Chicago is a community in the depths of cultural meltdown.
The skool kiddies are safe in the publik skool - they get shot in their “hood”, by the denizens of said ‘hood’.
Decades of subsidizing unmarried mothers (once called “sluts”) to produce illigitemate children (once called “bastards”) has produced what Liberals knew it would produce.
Chicago now has whole communities where most of the young males are, quite literally, bastards. Not surprisingly, their behavior is “bastardly”.
Words have meaning. Actions have consequences.
The wonder is that the slaughter of little bastards by other little bastards is not greater than it is.
When an entire city allows a whole generation to be raised in “single parent families”, that city has no complaint - they did it to themselves.
Yup. Obviously the only solution is more funding for police, prisons and many, many more gubberment workers. It IS for the childrun after all...
Freegards
So tell me why I’m supposed to care.
The government should just build a high perimeter fence around Chicago topped with razor wire, with a series of mine fields and razor wire buffers around that, and finally a guard tower system with good snipers and just call it Chicago federal penitentiary of Ill.
The entire nation can dump all class A felony convictions in there to rot forever in the nations first "prison city".
bump
Here we go, the start of the “it’s for the children” push to ban firearms.
BS! They made it up!
I live here in Chi and I can guarantee you that this is not made up...the reports on shootings were non stop before “O” got to be POTUS...My husband and I would bet on the number of casualties over a single weekend...most of the time more killed here than in Iraq...The Wild South Side
Well, that explains why they’re not complaining about overcrowded classrooms anymore.....
“Chicago is a community in the depths of cultural meltdown”
The Democrats here lub-it...Hell, Jesse has made a damn good livin off this for years...just ax-him
