HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) A conservative activist who ran for Pennsylvania governor three times in the 1990s says she will challenge Arlen Specter for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate next year.
Peg Luksik, of Johnstown, said Tuesday she is not deterred by the prospective candidacy of former congressman Pat Toomey. Toomey, a fellow conservative who narrowly lost to Specter in the 2004 primary, says he is considering running in 2010.
Luksik says Toomey told her last month that he wouldn't challenge Specter. She says it's up to Toomey to decide whether he wants to risk dividing the GOP's conservative wing and allowing Specter to win a sixth term.

I agree Smooth.
As for Peg not having won office before, Neither did Haley Barbour and the folks in MIssisippi elected him Governor and they love him.
His first office is Governor and he is kicking it. He lost a run for the Senate previously.
I’d like to see either Pat or Peg in either office, Lord willing.
She’ll probably stay in, insisting she’s a better conservative than Toomy, and that he should be the one to drop out. It’s an old familiar song, and the conservatives will have blown another opportunity to get rid of a RINO.
There already seems to be an attitude developing that since she announced first, she should get the nod and Toomy should drop out. Which is similar to the way the President of the Rotary Club is elected, and why conservatives get routinely hammered in a state that should have more conservative representation.
Yes, his first office. But not the first office he ran for. He ran for a West TX Congressional seat in 1978 when the Dem incumbent stepped down, first beating a well-respected Mayor in the primary. But TX was still a one-party state in those days, especially out in the sticks, and he lost to the Tory Dem nominee, Kent Hance. Hance eventually became a Republican.
46% isn’t bad for an unknown, who started late and had no money. Hafer has been around for a long time in various positions and has recognition on the ballot.
Give her some cash and watch her kick it!
Yes, she was adamantly against OBE.
Acorn plus the voting dead equals status quo.
Gerlach keeps his head down so low he’s in Delaware.
He is not a conservative by any stretch. Got letters from him about supporting shamnesty, the ole “pathway to citizenship” bs.
I'm certainly not offended by anything you've said. You have your heart set on Toomey and don't mind talking down Luksik and Russell. I get it. It's your opinion, enjoy it.
So she is on the same plane with Bush and Haley Barbour.
Only Haley and Peg are conservatives of the 3.
Toomey lost by barely over a single percentage point despite being outspent nearly 5-to-1 and having many Democrats flooding into the GOP primary to cast votes for Specter.
Luksik herself has run for Governor three times, once losing a GOP primary against a liberal in 1990 and opting to run third-party on two other occasions in ‘94 & ‘98 against Tom Ridge (and had Ridge not performed so well, she might’ve helped deliver the office to Mark Singel the first time around).
Frankly, someone who ran as a third-party spoiler isn’t owed a whole lot by a Conservative Republican in good standing.
She needs to run for another lesser office. Luksik is not an unknown quantity anymore. I guarantee she won’t get 46% again, certainly not in the general statewide. And that, ultimately, is all that matters here.
No. Dubya and Barbour lost only once. She’s lost three times.
Until he makes up his mind, he's just a wagon in search of a band.
“Good grief, you’re sensitive, Impy.”
Cause I didn’t like you’re litttle “thanks for clearing that up” silliness?
“You have your heart set on Toomey “
I have may heart set on winning the seat, Most people aren’t gonna be in dispute as to which of the 2 has a better shot at that. The former Congressman who would have beat Specter last time if not for Bush/Santorum/NRSC foolishness and rat crossover over the never held office runner-up of the 1990 primary for Governor (against the liberal RINO turned rat Barbara “Quisling” Hafer) who later went and joined a third party.
“I’m certainly not offended by anything you’ve said. “
I said “the situation”. You certainly seem put off at the thought of Luksik being brushed off. I’m sorry about that.
“It’s your opinion, enjoy it.”
I will!
“Gerlach keeps his head down so low hes in Delaware.
He is not a conservative by any stretch.”
Nope. ACU Lifetime rating 62.80%.
His open seat will be tough to hold.
I’d say it’s Rat target seat # 2, after the New Orleans seat.
He was all ready to come on my little BTR show until I mentioned that it was a conservative show.
crickets...................
That's all that really matters, Impy.
Ah nuts, you could have sandbagged him!
Is Bill Russell running again in 2010? He ran a good campaign in 2008, as did Irey in 2006, but the RAT tide was too strong (and Murtha has bought off too many people in the district).
I believe he is an Evangelical Christian.
