HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) A conservative activist who ran for Pennsylvania governor three times in the 1990s says she will challenge Arlen Specter for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate next year.
Peg Luksik, of Johnstown, said Tuesday she is not deterred by the prospective candidacy of former congressman Pat Toomey. Toomey, a fellow conservative who narrowly lost to Specter in the 2004 primary, says he is considering running in 2010.
Luksik says Toomey told her last month that he wouldn't challenge Specter. She says it's up to Toomey to decide whether he wants to risk dividing the GOP's conservative wing and allowing Specter to win a sixth term.

That might qualify as the single-most ridiculous statement I have read on FR.
If you had had anything to do with the 2004 GOP bloodletting between the two, then you would know better than to make such an asinine comment.
Just read your post 64 mea culpa - my apologies for jumping all over you.
The point is winning with a viable Conservative candidate. Toomey has at least won office. Luksik has never done so.
Prayers for Peg. I voted for her against Tom Ridge. If I lived in PA, I would certainly support her again.
Well, thanks for settling that!
Maybe Toomey should run against Murtha! HA!
I'm going to try not to read in typos anymore.
: > ) :>)
thank me!
LOL you are right!
I misread the original article post.
Thanks for being so “gentle”
LOL
Thanks.
I didn’t know that.
:) Thank you, HC!!
Peg is the campaign manager for Bill Russell who is challenging Jack Murtha.
Talk like that about conservative candidates early in the presidential campaign got us McCain and thus gut us Obama.
Thompson can’t win.
Tancredo can’t win,
Hunter can’t win,
Oh, that’s right, McCain DIDN’t win, did he.
So much for that.
You couldn’t be more wrong.
..."and it wasn't close even after Murtha put his foot in his mouth"
John Murtha (D) 57.9% William Russell (R) 42.1%
I'f he's the nominee I hope he wins but that's not the kind of performance that should automatically get him another shot IF there was somebody else.
I'm sorry you're offended by this situation but expect 90% of conservatives to be focused on Toomey and not Luksik. I'd a hate to see her stay in just to take 5-15% Toomey needs to upend Arlen.
"Maybe Toomey should run against Murtha! HA!"
Yes haha, he has no ties to that district.
I'm sorry but Toomey and Luksik are not on even footing. She's a lesser-tier candidate who might've not even been able to beat Specter.
Did you know that McCain was in Murtha’s corner as was the head of the party in PA?
More ridiculous things have been true much less said.
Peg got 46 % of the vote in 1990 for GOVERNOR, with only 50,000 in campaign money, running at the last minute.
She can squeeze a buck like nobodies business. Bill Russell was ahead in the polls agains Murtha until he called on Acorn to come into the state to assist about a week before the election.
Since Murtha has just invited Al Queda detainees to make a home in his district, I don’t think his constituents are ready to support him again.
Was GWB’s first office Governor of Texas?
not sure just asking.
Luksik wouldn't have that albatross around her neck.
In any event, I will vote for either one of them.
I hope the two of them work this out, one way or the other, either one of them can give Specter a good fight, IMO. But not both.
Remember that was the primary, not the general. And that was against an obnoxious liberal Republican, Barbara Hafer, who later switched to the Democrats.
“Bill Russell was ahead in the polls agains Murtha until he called on Acorn to come into the state to assist about a week before the election.”
I saw the polling. Those bastards at acorn did hell of a job if they were accurate. Lou Barletta was also leading in polls but lost.
“Since Murtha has just invited Al Queda detainees to make a home in his district, I dont think his constituents are ready to support him again.”
Hopefully. That man is scum.
