House and Senate Democrats will introduce a bill to ease rules on labor union elections as soon as Tuesday, thrusting Congress into one of the biggest battles ever between business and labor and putting moderates in the hot seat as no other piece of legislation has this year.
On Monday, investment guru Warren Buffett announced on CNBC that he is opposed to the Employee Free Choice Act, which would allow unions to bypass the secret ballot and require only signatures on a petition to organize a companys work force. I think the secret ballot is pretty important in this country, Buffett said.
Democrats, including President Barack Obama, had pledged last year to pass the bill quickly for the labor unions that helped them win big last November.
But three months into the new administration and the new Congress, Democratic lawmakers are watching the issue fester, as one Senate aide put it, while they struggle to find enough support to pass it.
Business groups and other opponents, who call the vote-by-petition practice card check, have grown more vocal in their opposition, while the unions have intensified their pressure on Congress to get the bill to Obama's desk.
On Tuesday, Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., and Rep. George Miller, D-Calif., are expected to introduce the legislation in the Senate and House, respectively. And according to leadership aides, it will be up to the Senate to pass the bill before the House considers it.

Lets see if that f#@ker Spector signs on to this.
If this passes the next thing will be the same for presidential elections. You will have a thug with a night stick standing next to you when you publicly vote.
I think he’s a faker too.
If the left can pass this bill, they can pass anything they want.
I have heard that Bayh is wavering on his support of the EFCA. But I haven’t seen any press releases to support that claim. Anybody got any news?
It just seems like three months.
If I owned a medium sized company, say 50 workers, and this was pulled on me, one weekend there’d be a half dozen trucks backed up to the loading dock and next Monday there’d be big fat locks chained across the doors.
Something that would actually help, forget it.
This would seem unconstitutional.
“You will have a thug with a night stick standing next to you when you publicly vote. “
You mean a DEAD thug.
This bill will bring out the most evil factions within unions and unions don’t need more help in that area. If you’ve never called a Senator or Crongressman to urge them to vote for or against a bill, please do so on this abomination.
He is. He's such a bloated , vain, strutting peacock that he actually thinks he can triangulate himself into another term, even though he is 79 and has Hodgkins disease.
Earlier, he voted for this travesty, but if this crap gets passed on his vote, he will go down in flames in the primary.
Still, I dont know what he will do, hes such an asshat.
Obama won all those caucus states in the Dem primaries with the same tactics the unions want to use to intimidate. Soon we’ll be “voting” without a secret ballot in elections so you can be punished if you vote wrong.
Spectre will support this — and be scornful of those “noncentrists” who question his judgement
the guy is altered
Wasn’t Buffet pro Obama?
Big time, and still is.
This bill is yet another job killer. Look what happened to the auto companies after unions took them over. America can expect more of the same if this bill passes. America, you have been warned!
