There was a joke going around a few years ago that the chief export of the United States, after having shut down most of the mills and factories, was derivatives.

Not so funny, now.

Look to Soros and a conspiracy of Asian and European currency traders including the Saudis.

Terrorists said they would ruin the West's economy and send it back to the stone age and no one listened.

The idea of having a permanent thriving post-industrial economy based on finance is now pretty much dead.

It was dead before it hatched. The promises of a service economy were symptoms of a society that had already outlived its productive days. The service economy myth was necessary only until the residual wealth could be wrung out of the citizens and households.

If you haven't, this is an excellent primer on wat is happening with the Obama movement now, ini its proper historical context:

Well annotated, well researched NOT polemic, a valid, weighty work on history:

New tagline; you suppose it's too inflammatory?

My opinion: It hurts the hard working conservative entrepreneurs.

What contingencies are they plotting for? Complete decimation of all areas of our very lives? It is a surreal world ... God save us.

For a nation which was once the "Workshop of the World" it is humiliating. We are now rueing the day we let our once-proud industries fold without a fight.

It's a sad time for the Brits.

I like your new tagline. It has a John Galt flavor to it.

Is my tagline over the top?

Thanks, I like your tagline, too, but have no opinion on whether it will be pulled.

What was the reference to maggie flooding the mines?

There was a very bitter coal miners strike circa 1983. The mines were state owned I believe
I guess Margaret Thatcher flooded some mines but I don't know if she intentionally ruined billions in mining machines

It's a sad time for the Brits.

All brought to you by phony free trade policies/treaties that drive industry out to Mexico and China. Then what do you do? You become dot com bubble "entrepreneurs", asset shufflers (house flipping), mortgage brokers and financial engineers

Those look like great books. The British became socialist to try and dig out of the destruction from WW2. I can imagine what life was like back then. Grim and dark and low pay in smoke stack industries but at least Great Britain ran it’s economy on an honest basis without real estate mania and without running up huge trade deficits

"What contingencies are they plotting for? Complete decimation of all areas of our very lives? It is a surreal world ... God save us."
One more reason 2010 and 2012 had better see a reversal in who is voted into Congress and the Presidency. Laws can be reversed that do harm to this nation's well being, given enough stout hardened politicians who can recognize the real dangers some perpetrate upon this nation.

Just a question for the experts here. For months people have been blaming Bush for the American economic meltdown. Is Bush also the blame for this mess and the coming possible China meltdown as well?

I am trying to educate myself on this economic mess as much as I can. I am in a constant battle with my very liberal brother-in-law who is still blaming Bush for everything. He is the tipycal dumb a$$ lib who thinks big govt is the answer to everything.
