How Will This Depression Differ from Previous Ones?
Seeking Alpha ^ | March 03, 2009 | Steve Saville

Although we are anticipating another great depression, we want to emphasise that we are NOT anticipating a replay of the 1930s. We are anticipating a drawn-out period of economic contraction, but the details will almost certainly differ markedly from previous depressions.

More crime.
MUCH more civil unrest.
Less international war between us and someone else.

We had several things still going for us in the 1930s:

1. We had stronger local communities of well rooted people.

2. We had a better sense of whom we were, now confused by politically correct responses, suppressing such awareness in the flood of 3rd World Immigration since 1965—some illegal, some subsidized by the Government.

3. We had stronger Faith involvement in dealing with local community problems, since undermined by a two generation plus ACLU attack on Faith in community affairs.

In short, our abilities to respond to hard, challenging times, have been undermined. This may be well and good, if you want sheep looking to an all powerful Central Government to solve every problem, but it is not the America won in the Revolution. Nor is it one that reflects anything that might be expected to really work well in the experience of Mankind.

Essentially we had a dictator in the Great Depression but his purview was not so great as Obama’s.

and we started it with a government that was a mush smaller part of the economy so was not able to do as much total damage as Hussein can do.

Tell that to the North Vietnamese . Watch the PATRIOT and RED DAWN! I am changing the quote to “ I only regret I have but one life to give to save this country from a Socialist regime headed by the Obamamessiah.”

WWII did NOT get us out of the Depression. It converted it into a Full Employment Depression. Economic conditions of individuals and families were no better than in the 30s but everyone had a job at essentially slave labor rates.
Rationing.
Price controls.
Wage controls.
Even the same exhortations i.e. "wear it out, mend it, use it up, do without." etc. Obesity was NOT a problem. I think the coming economic adversity will end obesity as a concern in America once again. And, once we get the socialized medicine that has already taken a big step with the "stimulus" bill, medical care will go downhill precipitously.

Less international war between us and someone else.

Maybe.
Maybe just a different set of enemies. Like Israel maybe.
If Iran were to launce a missile and lay a nuke on Philadelphis, would O'Bama retaliate by smashing Iran or would he instead, round up "dissidents" in America?

Thank you for posting this article: I think there is considerable credence in what the author has posted. A long protracted spiral death. Not the images of “Grapes of Wrath” nor of “Atlas Shrugged”; but, a different picture altogether.

I think you already know the answer to that one.

I'm thinking more like the intro to Road Warrior in certain places.

:)

You know, I just don't see that. America is _that_ prosperous, that I just don't see that immediate scenario. The dollars, which are falling in value, will be proliferated in ways which resemble a shell game. People will only very gradually and incrementally begin to observe their "comfort" levels reducing. And, by the time they've noticed it; Dems will put forward another "win by losing" campaign at the house and Presidential levels, so Republicans can not only take the heat but work triple-time to work and figure out how to get us all out of this mess.

By then, the masses will have figured the whole thing out; or remain clueless and do another 4 years of "Bush is Bad".

Meanwhile, the elected crooks who brought this on us will have semi-retired to spend "more time with their families" while carefully managing all that money they've absconded with in various pockets and countries of the Earth.

Sheez, a "Road Warrior" event would be easy, certainly upfront. That's not how liberals and their socialism works. They are much more like the aliens in "Independence Day" - parasites. They'll cause hell; but never wish to thoroughly deplete their "mother host".

Instead, we'll have people running around, dazed and confused, and reaching for more prozac. While the winners, the non-grasshoppers will emerge again. But this time, will they be accused of being the "hateful" and "corrupt" Wealthy? Time will tell.

BUT!! This is where, I think, you are precisely ON TARGET:

Already in various locations throughout California, business owners are locking and loading. Why? No budget money for cops to defend them. It was a year or so before I moved that even gated communities were being told they were "on their own" with regard to getting police to come and help if a burglary or gang invasion take place.

In Oakland, CA -- there've been numerous reports of solid citizens, business owners, private citizen arming and defending themselves against predators.

And so, Centurion2000, what you posit, has already begun in certain locations. Usually it is an area of some affluence being connected by mass transit, high car theft rates, near a "poverty" area. I hate to say follow the transit systems and what laws do not exist to protect the innocent.. but, the tracks are there.

Solid Citizens in Oakland and parts of the San Francisco Bay Area are already Galting.

That has already happened. Obama visited Israel and spoke with Bibi. Bibi took Obama's measure and politely sent him packing.

The result is that now Bibi is the Wests leader in the fight against Islamofascism. And we will send him millions of dollars via the Jewish community in the West. The Shit will hit the fan when Obama tries to stop that support.

Obama will try to convince Gordon Brown to do the same thing.

Wait until people really see what's going on.Bad News for Obama.
