Limbaugh's latest attacker: RNC's Steele By: Jonathan Martin March 2, 2009 12:07 PM EST
On the same night he was offering the keynote address to the Conservative Political Action Conference, Rush Limbaugh drew criticism from an unlikely source: Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele.
In a little-noticed interview Saturday night, Steele dismissed Limbaugh as an entertainer whose show is incendiary and ugly.
Steeles criticism makes him the highest-ranking Republican to pick a fight with the popular and polarizing conservative talk show host.
But the new RNC chairmans extraordinary comments wont sit well with the millions of conservative listeners Limbaugh draws each week, and Steele aides scrambled to limit the damage Monday morning by trying to change the subject.
Rahm Emanuel and the Democrats know they lose an argument with the Republican Party on substance so they are building straw men to attack and distract, said RNC spokesman Alex Conant.
The feud between radio host Rush Limbaugh and Rahm Emanuel makes great political theater, but it is a sideshow to the important work going on in Washington. RNC Chairman Michael Steele and elected Republicans are focused on fighting for reform and winning elections. The Democrats problem is that the American people are growing skeptical of the massive government spending being pushed by Congressional leaders like Nancy Pelosi.
Limbaugh, asked to respond, said hed save his counter-attack for his listeners.
Ill handle it on the radio, he wrote in an e-mail.
In an interview on CNN with D.L. Hughley, Steele assured that he, not Limbaugh, was in charge of the party before saying that he wanted to put the right-wing talker into context.
Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer, Steele said. Rush Limbaugh, his whole thing is entertainment. Yes its incendiary, yes its ugly.

Well, this is more than a little disappointing. I had high hopes for Steele. Calling Rush’s show ugly just plays into the game the liberals are playing right now - vilify and nullify the competition. Incendiary, yes. “Ugly”, no.
The only thing that’s truly ugly is the tone and direction in Washington right now.

thanks for the ping.
I e-mailed Steele, too. It was ‘returned to sender’. Reason?? Mailbox full!!!! LOLOL! Guess he is getting the message good!
Thanks for the link. I will have to read more of his opinions.
Agreed! You’re right - bad analogy - I was coming from my own experience of my marriage - in which we have worked out our differences for over 30 years! All the complainers only complain and do not actively get involved is what I am saying (see my previous post about getting involved).
My point was - where do the conservative go to if they won’t work within the party? The last time - when Dobson called for a Christian conservative to boycott the 2006 election - the conservatives got creamed! When we did not fill the void - the liberals did! And the RINOS took over the party! By our boycott - we hurt our cause and ourselves! And we still have!
Just like someone else posted here - we “cut off our nose to spite our face!” Brilliant!
“You DEFINITELY havent earned that right.”
DITTO!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much for the phone nunmbers. I am furious and fed up with attacks on any conservatives. God bless Rush for his great comeback today.
I was wrong, and I'm happily munching on crow right now. When I posted that, I hadn't seen the Steele video in question. Steele needed to be addressed by Rush, and I enjoyed every minute of it.
If you haven't seen the disgraceful video in question, it's here.
For the short version, where he agrees with Hughley that "The Republican National Convention -- it looked literally like Nazi German...." go here.
God bless Rush, I love what he said about this.
Thank you so much, I agree with you. And on the link to the long version you posted there Michael Steele also agree’s with them when they say the Republican party is like the Nazi party. sheesh!
A couple of people on Redstate called their offices today.. one was asked specifically “are you a Limbaugh listener” to which he replied that isn’t the issue here, the issue is Steele going to support the RNC or the DNC... he was told they have been slammed with phone calls today... GOOD!!!
Beaversmom,
“Steele said. “Number two, there are those out there who want to look at what hes saying as incendiary and divisive and ugly. Thats what I was trying to say. It didnt come out that way. He does what he does best, which is provoke: He provokes thought, he provokes the left.”
Steele explained this after the fact, and it was how I first received it although it was clumsy. But if you look at the video, I think that one can read it the way I first saw it live - iow, yes, liberals think it’s incindieary and ugly, of course they would. And the way the anchor then cuts off at that point, he knew he got what he wanted. Steele should know better but no matter what one says they’re going to spin it.
For sure.
Beaversmom,
I should add that we should now expect Rahm E. to say ‘see I was right. When a Republican disagrees with Rush, they have to end up apologizing’ - like Phil Gingrey did, and to whom Emanuel was referring on Face the Nation.
Enjoy your thirty pieces of silver.
Don’t let the door hit your . . . lol! Bye!
Yes - Irish Eyes - everyone is arguing and saying they quit! That’s exactly what the liberal media and the Dimms want! That’ll get us nowhere!if we are all fighting!
