Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), who is also an OB/GYN, told CNSNews.com on Friday that many medical practitioners, including himself, will go to prison before agreeing to engage in medical practices they morally oppose, such as abortion.
Earlier that same day, the Obama administration had announced it was reviewing a Bush administration regulation known as the conscience clause. That Health and Human Services regulation protects health-care workers at federally funded institutions from having to engage in practices that violate their moral or religious beliefs. These practices include performing or referring abortions, performing sterilizations, or giving or receiving training in these practices.
Federal funding is widespread in the health care sector owing to such programs as Medicare, Medicaid, the newly expanded SCHIP insurance program for children, and the many billions in federal funds spent each year on medical research.
The Obama administrations review is considered the precursor to rescinding the regulation.
I think a lot of us will go to jail, Coburn told CNSNews.com when asked what would happen if the administration reverses the policy. Lets see them prosecute the first one of us for not doing that.
By that comment, Coburn meant that doctors, himself included, are willing to defy the law before agreeing to perform medical procedures that violate their conscience, a Coburn spokesman clarified.
Coburn spoke to CNSNews.com after he delivered a speech at the annual Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC) in Washington, D.C., on Friday.
You're right. They murmur apologetically when they should be shouting it out loud and clear. We are actually safer when we're louder.
I’m still curious about that big ol’ hug Coburn gave Obama after the speech the other night. You’d have thought they were best buddies.
“Abortion controls the number of democrat dependents being born.”
I think about that often.
God bless Tom Coburn.
I will prescribe regimens for the good of my patients according to my ability and my judgment and never do harm to anyone.
I will not give a lethal drug to anyone if I am asked, nor will I advise such a plan; and similarly I will not give a woman a means to cause an abortion.
But I will preserve the purity of my life and my arts. ... In every house where I come I will enter only for the good of my patients, keeping myself far from all intentional ill-doing and all seduction and especially from the pleasures of love with women or with men, be they free or slaves.
There ya go. Good old Hippocrates. No nonsensical muslim business about women not showing their bodies or using alcohol gel hand sanitizer, yet it covers most of the major ethical points: first, do no harm; speficially, don't kill patients; don't kill patients' babies; and keep your pants on.
Coburn has the right idea. It’s time to start taking a stand against the monster we now have as President. Civil disobedience is a logical way to do that.
I’m not convinced Obama is the anti-christ, but if you look at some of the factors surrounding his rise to power (the massive adulation, the sycophant press, the unprecedented power grabs, etc etc) this is one hell of a preview for the real thing.
Thanfully the world will end a few weeks after Obama's re-election.
You bet your ass if a procedure was against Muslim beliefs they would get a pass!
Please post your proof that the prophesy about the Anti-Christ is fulfilled in Obama. State the exact Bible references-chapter & verse-and state how you know for a fact the references are specific to Obama. Fact is, NO ONE knows who the Anti-Christ will be; not you, not me, not historians, or even “Bible scholars”, NO ONE!!!. You really need to brush up on your Bible knowlege because the Bible states “ No one knows but the Father”. Even the Son does not know...get your facts straight before you post OPINION as FACT.
Proves they are not “pro choice” -— as they don’t want doctors to have a “choice.”
Only pro-death.
Neither am I. But I am convinced that his owners are.
I’m certain Obama will take pleasure in releasing thousands of Barabuses to make room for as many Christians as possible.
Spot on. This is why we need to be afraid.
Several of my pro-life, but horribly uninformed, relatives voted for Obama. I also have some conservative friends who voted for him because they shared the same skin color.
This is the kind of policy which will force these voters to see what they have done. Almost everyone what voted for Obama has someone in their family who works in the medical field. The chickens are coming home to roost.
God be with him for taking a stand. I fear all who oppose BO will be in prison by 2012.

You say that as if you are resolved to let that happen. I feel that Americans are better than that. These are dangerous times and admitting defeat before it happens, assures that it will.
“That’s why we NEED explicit protections for conscience.”
That used to be the First Amendment, which guaranteed us the right to PRACTICE our religions free from government tyranny.
The problem is, we are no longer following the constitution.
I dont think Obama will finish his first term.

Neither do I. Revolt is inevitable.
