HARRISBURG -- A new statewide poll shows 53 percent of Pennsylvanians -- and 66 percent of Republicans -- want someone to replace Sen. Arlen Specter.
Asked whether they think Specter, a Philadelphia Republican, has done his job well enough to win re-election or whether they'd prefer a "new person" in that job, registered voters by a 53-38 percent margin said it's time to give someone else a chance, according to the poll by Susquehanna Polling and Research. Eight percent were undecided.
The numbers might reflect Specter's vote as one of three Republican senators who enabled passage of President Obama's $787 billion federal stimulus package, said James Lee, president of Harrisburg-based Susquehanna polling. But they reflect long-standing dissatisfaction among Republican conservatives with Specter's record, he said.
If the election were held today, "in a two-person race, Specter is toast" if his challenger is a credible candidate, Lee said. A race with more candidates likely would improve Specter's chances of winning.
"The senator never comments on polls," said Specter spokeswoman Kate Kelly. "There is only one that counts."
The poll surveyed 700 registered voters from Monday through Thursday. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.

mmm. toasted RINO.
To late.... the bastard has already done a lot of damage to the country and the party.
Ooooh, save the horn, it’s great for soup.
And I’ll stop right there before it gets weirder.......
“Kennedy’s Magic bullet” Specter has experience is forging result of scientific investigation.
He sure will find something to be re-elected.
Could Santorum run against him in a primary? He’s a conservative. That would give one patriot senator from PA and one liberal, instead of two liberals as it is now.
Let’s HOPE SO... but then .. we’ve been hearing the same thing about MCLAME for a LONG TIME.
The only way the RNC regains any credibility is if he is gone in the primary.
Too late is right! He may just be THE person we will be telling our grandchildren was the tipping point that caused the downfall of our FORMER republic. Forget the next election, folks...It’s about right NOW. We don’t have time to worry about NEXT time. I’ll never forget how frustrating it was to see Bush and Rush take up for Specter during his last primary. I love Rush, but remember, Rush had him on his show to give him a chance to defend himself.
Lets put it this way, after toasting the American economy and voting too many times with the party of deceit, deception, decay, and demoralization, it is high time Mr. Spector got his toasting, to spare the American people more of his brand of politics.
Oh yea. could someone pass the A-1. Amen.
We hope, we pray...
this idiot played into the Dem’s plan like HW Bush. He raised taxes and got beat; and numb nuts voted to increase spending with money that’s not there.
The fine people of the Keystone State will decide, but if history is an indicator - even "Not Proven" did not cause a stir. [Interesting what earmarks can buy - like a perpetual Political Royalty.]
Not nearly as much as he has cost this country.
