Italy's government has rushed through a decree to crack down on sexual violence and illegal immigration after a spate of rapes blamed on foreigners.

Not to sound derogatory but how long is ‘life in prison’ in Italy?
Foreigners?
Translation: muslims.
You mean they’re not trying to blame it on the victims like in civilized Sweden?
Well, at least the Italian government is responsive to its citizens. The rest of Europe is learning how to lay back and enjoy it.
I’ll go out on a limb & guess that in five years we American conservatives are going to look at most of Europe with envy.
The media and Hollywood paint such a charming picture of Europe, but it is a complete disaster.
Roma gypsy camps? Lovely.

It’s unfortunate that so many people have been hurt by those ‘foreigners’. The pendulum swung too far IMO. It’s not only Italy. It’s most of the civilized western world that has allowed too many of these ‘foreigners’ in. I guess eventually they’ll actually call them muslims.
Wasn’t the wife of Italy’s top ranking admiral raped and killed in this kind of scenario? Like 8 months ago?
Most of the mainstream Italians I met loathe the Roma.
Racists. You wanted multiculturalism, you got it!!
Bummer that Italian women have to accept the consequences, but then, no doubt, many of them wanted the multiculturalism.
“Most of the mainstream Italians I met loathe the Roma.”
We call them Gypsies where I come from...anyway, you are correct, they are DESPISED by natives of their host countries.
“Not to sound derogatory but how long is life in prison in Italy?”
Generally, in Europe, it winds up being 10 years (never longer, even for mass murderers), and only if the judge is in a bad mood.
You have to understand - the United States does (still) have a real “life in prison”, not to mention death penalty.
Europe, to show that they’re different, limits their terms to 10 years...to show how humane they are.
...that is unless it’s your innocent daughter being raped by one of these early releases.
Shoot first, ask questions later.
Congress needs to get busy......what's the bag limit on "foreigners" ?
Illegals from Mexico are raping American women and girls (and, yes, even some children) with wild abandon. But the left must not see a problem with that because it is the biggest champion of illegal immigrants’ “rights.”
An all too valid corollary.
- Here in Sweden I guess we offer the broadest possible definition of what is to be considered “rape” found anywhere on Earth (for instance, according to Swedish law, all forms of “sexual” actions taking place between an adult and a minor is considered “rape”).
On the other hand, in Sweden, just like in many other comparable societies, few reports of rape result in someone actually being indicted and charged with rape.
According to some sources, Sweden ranks high in the rapes/capita league.
But if you compare official statistics like these:
http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_rap_percap-crime-rapes-per-capita
(where the rate for Sweden's isn't listed for some reason)
to official Swedish statistics in the area of ALL sexual offenses:
http://www.bra.se/extra/pod/?action=pod_show&id=52&module_instance=11
these figures indicate the rape frequency of Sweden is rather low compared to many other “civilized” countries. But is it actually? Personally, I don't claim to have an answer to this question.

Until all orifices have DNA samples from fifty different men, I would imagine.
“Not to sound derogatory but how long is life in prison in Italy?”
- According to wikipedia:
“Life imprisonment (ergastolo in Italian) has an indeterminate length. After 10 years (8 in case of good behavior) the prisoner may be given permission to work outside the prison during the day, or to spend up to 45 days a year at home. After 26 (or 21 in case of good behavior) years, they may be paroled. The admission to work outside the jail or to be paroled needs to be approved by a special court (Tribunale di Sorveglianza) which determines whether or not an inmate is suitable for libertà condizionata (parole). Prisoners sentenced for associations with either mafia activities or terrorism that do not cooperate with law enforcement agencies are not eligible for parole.
Under any circumstance, however, the admission to parole is not easy. An inmate that has received more than one life sentence has to spend a period from 6 months to 3 years in solitary confinement. In 1994, the Constitutional Court ruled that giving a life sentence to a person under the age of 18 was cruel and unusual.”
I wonder if Italy might be tougher on maffia/terrorist crimes - at least in teory - than any other Western European/EU country in this sense?
Does anyone know?
