ELLWOOD CITY — Since voting last week to approve the $787 billion stimulus package, U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., has caught a little heat from fellow Republicans for breaking ranks with his party.
Passage of the stimulus package was regarded as the first major legislative victory for President Barack Obama and a defeat for Republican opponents, and some of them, Specter admits, were a little sore over it.
But Specter said Thursday during a business forum at ESB Bank’s corporate office in Ellwood City that other Senate Republicans had a different view.
“One of my colleagues said, ‘Arlen, I’m proud of you,’ ” Specter said. “I said, ‘Are you going to vote for it?’ and he said ‘No.’
“There were people who didn’t want the bill to fail. They just didn’t want their fingerprints on it.”

Former Congressman Pat Toomey needs to be convinced to run against Specter again. And this time, the entire Republican Party needs to unite behind him!

Give it up, Arlen. You can con the “moderates” and dems who vote for you, but not us. This “I was the only republican brave enough to actually vote my conscience” crap you’re trying to pass off is not going to fly. You are a traitor to the nation and to the American people YET AGAIN!

Notice he didn’t name the colleague who said he was proud of him. Because, outside of the Mainiacs, I don’t think there was one.

Notice how Arlen doesn’t rat out whoever supposedly said they were for it but would vote against it? Could it be a figment of his imagination, perhaps a hallucination. I double dog dare him to say who it was, then we can have some real entertainment.
