Specter defends stimulus vote [Pennsylvania RINO alert]

ELLWOOD CITY — Since voting last week to approve the $787 billion stimulus package, U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., has caught a little heat from fellow Republicans for breaking ranks with his party.

Passage of the stimulus package was regarded as the first major legislative victory for President Barack Obama and a defeat for Republican opponents, and some of them, Specter admits, were a little sore over it.

But Specter said Thursday during a business forum at ESB Bank’s corporate office in Ellwood City that other Senate Republicans had a different view.

“One of my colleagues said, ‘Arlen, I’m proud of you,’ ” Specter said. “I said, ‘Are you going to vote for it?’ and he said ‘No.’

“There were people who didn’t want the bill to fail. They just didn’t want their fingerprints on it.”

“There were people who didn’t want the bill to fail. They just didn’t want their fingerprints on it.”

He is not only stupid but dishonest too.

Shame on you Arlen Specter. For shame! You have earned the disgrace you wear today. I hope, I hope and pray, your time of being a Senator ends soon.

You have repeatedly lied. No one has missed that, Arlen Specter. You have repeatedly promised never to do that again. Again, you lied.

No one is fooled. You have brought disgrace upon yourself.

“one of his colleagues”? If he had any cajones he would name names. What a liar.

Murtha won in Pa - even after calling his voters “redneck racists”.

I forsee Specter staying in his seat forever...

In the future, children will be told, while sitting around campfires, how Specter stabbed America in the back and the Republicans at the same time.

The children will ask: "What is a Republican?"

If you don’t get him in the primary he won’t be tossed.

“If you don’t get him in the primary he won’t be tossed.”

Former Congressman Pat Toomey needs to be convinced to run against Specter again. And this time, the entire Republican Party needs to unite behind him!

Come on, PA!!!! Don’t let the traitor Specter get re-elected!

I see his future: Wandering aimlessly around trying to find somebody -- anybody -- who still cares enough to listen to him explain his reasons for voting "yes."

Tough crowd.

Give it up, Arlen. You can con the “moderates” and dems who vote for you, but not us. This “I was the only republican brave enough to actually vote my conscience” crap you’re trying to pass off is not going to fly. You are a traitor to the nation and to the American people YET AGAIN!

And President Bush campaigned for Specter and doomed Toomey to defeat.

Notice he didn’t name the colleague who said he was proud of him. Because, outside of the Mainiacs, I don’t think there was one.

Notice how Arlen doesn’t rat out whoever supposedly said they were for it but would vote against it? Could it be a figment of his imagination, perhaps a hallucination. I double dog dare him to say who it was, then we can have some real entertainment.
