Attorney General Eric Holder described the United States Wednesday as a nation of cowards on matters of race, saying most Americans avoid discussing unresolved racial issues. In a speech to Justice Department employees marking Black History Month, Holder said the workplace is largely integrated but Americans still self-segregate on the weekends and in their private lives.
"Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial we have always been and continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards," said Holder, nation's first black attorney general.
Race issues continue to be a topic of political discussion, Holder said, but "we, as average Americans, simply do not talk enough with each other about race."
He urged people of all races to use Black History Month as a chance for frank talk about racial matters.

Only cowards use race as a political ploy Mr. Holder.
Race is irrelevant - why would I need to discuss it?
I’ve confronted a few young men and asked, “why are you wearing your pants so low that you have to walk funny or hold them up with one hand.?” I just get puzzled stares. My son is not allowed to sag.
Don`t ya love the post racialism we now have since The One`s junta has taken over?
Perhaps because any such discussion soon degenerates into threats and intimidation.
You say a black man but until he proves himself, I’m going to continue to think of him as the colored boy.
So it’s okay to talk about the poor state of the bulk of African-American families?
Actually, I think it was. Many people were afraid to say that Obama was unqualified, because they feared being labeled racists.
I can and will chose what subjects I talk about.
BTW, opening your mouth at the office to the “wrong” (read Politically Correct) person, or even within hearing of the “wrong” person, can get the talkee into lots of hot water with HR, leading up to and including termination in some companies.
Horse bleep! Whenever a liberal says they want to have a ‘conversation’ or a ‘dialogue’, what they really want is for you to sit there and shut up and listen to them lecture you....
Whitey just doesn't get enough spurious "racism" crammed down his throat.
Four years of race baiting....I am tired of it already.
What is it about "FREEDOM OF ASSOCIATION" that this bastard doesn't understand? And peoples' "private lives" are just exactly that ... private!
People aren't interested in hiring crankster gangsters or other malcontents, regardless of skin color.
What? Am I no longer supposed to have the right to associate with whomever I want? Maybe the commissar of race can select my friends for me.
Oh come one...EVERY thread is the right place for a little anti-Catholic hate!
Yes I do segragate in my private life. I choose to associate with people who obey the law, are financially stable, intelligent, raise good families, and love America. Fortunately that takes in most of the US and includes every religious belief and racial group. I don’t know what this asswipe is talking about.
Someday, the truth will win out....and Black people will turn on the likes of Oprah and Holder....and maybe Whites will turn on them, too....
