...No matter how big a tent the Republicans need to pitch, they still need to stand for core values — and among them should be fiscal responsibility and smaller government for greater individual liberty. Porkulus fails on both counts...

Latest issue of right-to-life News from NRTL has a two page spread thanking President Bush for all that he did.

Didn't see it, but I'll take your word on that.

However, I still feel like a used Kleenex. There's always that "Hey you pro-lifers, take a walk down the road and stay out of sight until the elections are over" attitude. There is always that type of distancing going on, like we are some embarrassment to the party and I'm sick of it.

For all the complaints against Snowe and Collins on this site, I wonder if there are any ME Freepers? The Maine twins would take the opinions of ME Freepers more seriously than the ones who live below the Mason Dixon line.

"Collins was just reelected for six years and Snowe is not up until 2012"

The Pub Senate leaders can jerk them from committees and the RNC can stop any funds. There are probably other penalties. Why not - they're Rats anyhow (unless they offer a written confession, repent, and DO SOMETHING to undo the damage)?

Senator Gordeon Smith, Oregon crossed over to the dark side when about two years ago he came out against the Iraq war. When we were just starting to win with the surge. He was all over the press with interviews and his speech coming out against the war. I guess he thought that the liberals in Oregon would like him and the liberals in the Senate would not target his seat.

He was number two on the Dems list to take out. He lost by 9,000 votes to a liberal democrat and 20,000 votes went to the Constitution party in the Senate race. Every conservative that I knew in Oregon said no to Smith and now we have a liberal Democrat.

They are not getting any money because one was just elected and the other one is not up for two years so RNC is NOT giving them any money. Better off to ignore those two women and go after Specter. Republicans have no say in Committee so it makes little difference and those two women know it. Dems are not paying attention even in Committee. We need to quit spinning wheels about what to do with two women who are going nowhere and concentrate on winning seats in 2010 in the House and in the Senate.

You don’t kick someone out for voting with the opposition no matter how much you detest the vote. Slippery slope and no someplace we want to go. I don’t understand why people cannot see it. Put pressure on them to vote but having calls from outside their state? They could care less and that is where the problem lies. They don’t answer to you or me. They answer to the people of Maine which is a far cry from Oklahoma. Now if they were from Oklahoma and pulled this, we could do something but we are talking about Maine. It is up to Maine to take action and that is not going to happen.

In the end what law/rule except stupidity did these women and Specter break? They are idiots to be bought and paid for by ZERO but it is their vote whether I like it or not and they don’t represent me.

Now Specter can be defeated by the right candidate but we need a candidate that can win in PA in the November election which might not suit an Oklahoman but once again we are talking about having to reach out to Indys/Dems in PA to win the election. We need a candidate that has honesty, integrity, has paid his taxes, and he understand what being a fiscal conservative is all about. Economics and the GOP plan is going to get our people elected in 2010. They need to keep standing tall and we need to keep backing our House and Senate members that stand up for us, the taxpayer.

If Specter wins a primary, and has to run against a Cindy Sheehan or Cynthia McKinney-style Democrat, I will support even that Democrat. Specter and his demonseed are a lingering cancer to the Republican Party and must be removed at all cost.

Yeah, I know, Specter votes for the Republican control of the Senate, but which would be worse? Democrats having 51 votes and taking the blame, or having 48 seats plus Specter, Collins and Snowe, and the GOP taking all the blame? I can no longer buy the argument that Specter is better than a Democrat.

Most people who say that mean, “I’ll pretend I’m angry at Specter, but I’ll vote in the primary for whoever the Philly Inquirer tells me to, because that guy is ‘electable.’” I hope you’re not one of those.

>> In the end what law/rule except stupidity did these women and Specter break? <<

GOD’S LAW!

They have championned the most radical of abortion legislation year in and year out. He autocratically decreed that Bush administration must not appoint a Thomas or Scalia, or anyone who is openly pro-life, and Bush obeyed. He is an anti-Christian paranoid, who votes Republican only when his vote is completely extraneous.

>> They are not getting any money because one was just elected and the other one is not up for two years so RNC is NOT giving them any money. <<

Well, since they’re not up, the RNC hasn’t given them money in this cycle yet. But the RNC gave him oodles of cash to fend off Brian Toomey. And President Bush, Rick Santorum, and a parade of heavies campaigned heavily for him, and he still barely beat Toomey. And Toomey polled BETTER than him in the Senate race against all Democratic challengers. The RNC also gave money to Chafee, to defeat Laffey in RI.

>> You don’t kick someone out for voting with the opposition no matter how much you detest the vote. <<

Umm... why not? If it’s an occasional disagreement, then you’re right. But after it’s a while, it’s insane to quarter the enemy in your midst.

>> Steele has no authority to expell or do anything else to a sitting Reublican Senator who is elected by their State not nationally. <<

Single-handedly, no. But he certainly can cut funds to them. And if he makes it clear that they no longer will receive GOP funds, that’ll make it much easier for a credible challenger to get backing for a primary.

Actually, it was Lee Atwater, the late campaign advisor of George H.W. Bush.

The plain fact is that the party has no power to ‘unelect’ elected Snowe, Collins, and Spectre. We should have primaried Spectre in 2004, but we missed by a few thousand votes when Toomey tried.

Again, I have NEVER . . . . . I REPEAT NEVER stated or suggested that the RNC Chair can "unelect them". PhiKappaMom threw that bit of confusion into the mix because she didn't read what I wrote. What I said was that the RNC chair needs to toss their butts out of the party (to put it plain language). That has NO IMPACT on their status as elected members of Congress, it just means that these people cannot caucus with or call themselves "Republicans". That means that they must declare themselves to either be Independents or Democrats.

The censure does that. “Merely censuring them is only slap in the face of Republicans, NOT a slap on Collins’, Spectre’s and Snowe’s wrists.” That’s not so.

Prove it. It doesn't remove them from the party, it doesn't change their status or seniority in the party, it doesn't affect their eligibility to run for re-election, it doesn't impose a fine, it doesn't give them jail time, it doesn't prevent them from voting for or against any piece of legislation, It doesn't prevent them from appearing in public, print or on TV as a representative of the Republican Party, it doesn't force them to stuff gummy bears up their noses on the Senate floor, so what's the point?? All it does is insult Republican voters who generally don't like/respect these 3 anyway since they primarily vote with the Dems most of the time.

“I said was that the RNC chair needs to toss their butts out of the party (to put it plain language). “

Which he has no power to do.

It’s kind of pointless to propose things that cant happen. You’ll be wrongly disappointed at innocent folks.

Which he has no power to do.

Then, he either needs to get the power or the position needs to be abolished. I don't give a rat's patootie for one more figurehead fundraiser.

We either make the position meaningful or dispose of it.

When we sit around while RINOs destroy our party, then give them campaign money, we’re ENCOURAGING more RINOs to pull the same crap.

I agree with all your comments. We gave nothing to the R party nor to any candidates last year. And everytime they called I gave them a piece of my mind.

I intend to keep calling the Party committees. My message is "get rid of the three RINOS or I'll do all I can to elect new Senators and get rid of all incumbents, R and D".

(sigh - not getting the point) .... No, I have a better idea: Instead making arrogant demands of others, YOU get them out of the party. And if you cant do it, get the power, we dont need figurehead posters on FR telling other people what to do.
You are an expert at telling people what to do, go ahead, make Speklesnowe go away!

That obviously worked GREAT, given the (marxist socialist Democrat) people running the Federal govt now. (/sarc)

(sigh . . . . . . . also not getting the point)If I had that ability, trust me, I would. However, if I, as a single citizen could get them out of the party, it would make me a Democrat because I would be committing voter fraud by casting millions of illegal votes against them.

It is unseemly to me that the Democrats can throw politicians out of the Democrat party because they don't follow the Democrat rule book, talking points, whatever. Why is it that they can do it and the Republicans can't??

And if Michael Steele had that ability, trust me, he would. You and him are in the same boat. No point throwing rocks at *him*.

I have never ever ever heard of the DNC chair kicking some elected official out of the party. Ever. It’s done through primaries.
