A SENIOR Israeli diplomat has warned that Israel is ready to launch a military offensive against Iran to prevent it from developing nuclear weapons.
In an interview with The Age, Dan Gillerman, who was Israel's permanent representative at the United Nations from 2003 until last September, said time for diplomatic efforts to stop Iran acquiring a nuclear capability might have already expired.
"The world cannot afford to live with a nuclear Iran," Mr Gillerman said. "I hope diplomacy will work, but I'm not sure we have the time for diplomacy to work.
"Israel has made it very clear that it will not live with a nuclear Iran and I believe that Israel has the ability and the capacity to make sure it will not happen."
Mr Gillerman, who will visit Australia later this month, said two clocks were running with respect to Iran: "There is the technological clock of Iran and there is the diplomatic clock, and I think the Iranian clock is running much faster."

Israel - 177,000 active military personnel, 408,000 reserves
I've always wondered why Israel is so willing to rattle the sabers when they are vastly outnumbered by Iran.
Talk talk talk.
Enough talk already.
Won’t someone, anyone kick some dirt on Iran?
Hasn’t anyone any moxie in this world?
Hey saudi arabia ya pansey asses, if Iran gets the bomb just remember it is you and your sect they don’t like. And you are in very close proximity.
Personally I think both your sects are dirt.
The raw numbers really don’t mean much. There is no way Iran or Israel can launch land wars against each other.
The only way Israel can accomplish its objective at this point (with certainty) is with nukes.
So we’re really just waiting to see which one gets trigger-happy first?
“why Israel is so willing to rattle the sabers when they are vastly outnumbered by Iran.”
First, Iran does not border Israel the military forces on the ground are almost meaningless.
Second, Israel has the atom bomb.
Third, Israel has always been vastly outnumbered by its Arab neighbors and beat them.
I hope that sums it up. The only obstacle to Israel in this case is the US of A.
One has to admire Israel’s restraint from having done anything already. Iran’s clerical threats cannot be taken lightly as they are the “government”.
Pardon my ignorance, but doesn’t Iran have the bomb as well?
Iran couldn’t even defeat Saddam’s pathetic military, so what makes you think it would be a match for Israel?
“I’ve always wondered why Israel is so willing to rattle the sabers when they are vastly outnumbered by Iran.”
Doesn’t matter, FRiend.....it’ll be Death from Above!
Militant
“The only obstacle to Israel in this case is the US of A.”
I’m not sure of that. With the advent of Obummer’s administration Israel has no friend in the US of A anymore. The fact that Israel has been, at least so far, the biggest recipient of US foreign aid, I’m sure that will stop. That’s where that humongous gas reserve comes in that they recently discovered.
Iran - 545,000 active military personnel, 350,000 reserves and dumber than a box of rocks.
Israel - Yahweh, 177,000 active military personnel, 408,000 highly trained reserves
Fear not. Israel will be attacked by the world and the world will lose. ;-)
Because once you own the air, you own the ground. The IAF owns the air. Cluster munitions will take care of the majority of the ground forces if any remain after the first bombing/Tomahawk run.
I’ve always wondered why Israel is so willing to rattle the sabers when they are vastly outnumbered by Iran.
They were vastly outnumbered in 1967. The Egyptians never knew what hit them until it was over six days later.
The Six Day War.
Iran had a 10 year going with Iraq that ended in stalemate.
Not yet, hence the warnings from Israel that they will attack if they don’t stop.
Personally I think they will wait until Iran has its elections, but it’s the Islamic Council that really runs things there so the elections are just a sham anyway.
I think we are past the point of “ifs”, now it’s merely the “whens”.
Possibly true. But I don't want to see us go down in their defense.
The pressure is building for "the one" who will bring the parties to the table to strike a deal - a "peace" agreement.
Admire? I’m not sure that’s the right term.
It has to do with the Arab (Persian in this case) inability to wage a modern war. They run away like little girls. Remember the Six-Day War?
